they allready exist, they're called li-ion, the whole li-ion industry is supported by battery packs for comsumer goods.

so the real problem is there is no real excess capacity, and the ammount of new consumer electronics shipping with li-ion battery packs keeps growing.

so you have huge demand for consumer goods li-ion with huge markups with growth outstripping capacity.

doesnt take a genius to see why none of the manufacturers are willing to switch gears and build high capacity batteries large enough for a car with little markup vs consumer goods which are still outstripping capacity

Even the Li-Ion doesn't come close to energy density of gas. What lithium ion battery system is out there that can fit inside the space of a 12 gallon gas tank, weighs no more than an average adult, goes 400 miles per charge and full charge from empty in 5 minutes or less?

Then it's an additional challenge to have enough supplying power, not just the total capacity, to turn a hundred kilowatt motor.
