In this thread, review the recorRAB you've downloaded from http://www.rabroad.com/soundtracks-compilations/50744-mb-recorRAB-release-catalog.html. This was created in order to generate discussion about the struggling MB RecorRAB project (shocked it hasn't really taken off yet).

It doesn't matter if someone else already reviewed an album you want to review, do it anyway.

Catie Yerkes - I Drew Your Likeness​

What we have with I Drew Your Likeness is an ultra lo-fi, acoustic singer-songwriter record that you'll either hate for all the wrong reasons or love for all the right ones. The fidelity will turn a lot of people off. The mixing is close to nothing. There's so much fuzz in the background at times you think you can hear the ocean. But those "drawbacks" only accentuate the reasons this is a great release.

I like that Catie isn't hiding anything, and the imperfections of this record are in some ways it's essence. That's not to say "it's so bad, it's good." The songs themselves are well written. Some of them you can even sing along to. The music is honest, sincere, and heartfelt. The lyrics are thoughtful and very well written (and included in liner notes, in case you can't make them out). And by track 13 you'll be wishing everything was lo-fi.

If this kind of record doesn't sound like your thing, I think approaching it with an open mind and viewing it as a window to the artist - the sincerity of another human being - might change your mind. It did mine.

Or want to post music on the forum, I never did like music forums with five or six fukking red necks posting recordings that sounded like something, that someone wired into a 8-track from 1972 :eek:, although there are some good musicians online, but hey! if you cant make it to my house or vice versa?

I did love Catie's album... Reminded me of Frusciante's Niandra Lades album in some way. I just love Lo-fi music.

Looking forward for the other reviews (I'm a fan of all 4 of'em).
 
Catie's album is nice and intimate, like I'm sitting in the cold corner of a concrete basement listening to it being recorded.

Amoebacorns is well-composed and has that mainstream alternative feel, with a bit of an early 80's punk vibe. A little loose, but that gives it character.

Space is the Place--Bebop Cola was hilarious. The Chrysalis was also a quite good track.

Sonace... not really my thing.

The funny thing about that one is, it's not really mine either. The producer influenced most of the music, and actually a lot of the lyrics. So basically it's a well recorded, moderately produced, artisticly flawed demo. That's why I didn't release it officially, but it's not so bad I'm ashamed of it.
