Mazda protege in games?????????

Why is the Mazda Protege never in ANY video game I've played except gt4? Not the old ugly 98 and below year models, but the 99 and above year models? That's one of my favorite cars, and the only game that has them is Gran Turismo 4.(2002 model in that game).

Well, I always wonder the same thing, and then I got the answer when I was sitting on the toilet one morning. It because prior to 2001, Mazda Protege's were gutless wonders, unless you are looking in ES 2.0 trim. They had the smallest and weakest engine in the class. In 2002, after the rework, Mazda put a little juice under the hood and also introduced the MazdaSpeed version of pretty much every car they produced, except 626. And thats when the game developers realized that there is a company named Mazda that can make kicka$$ cars. :)
 
The same reason you don't really see newer-model toyota corollas or camrys or honda accords. Not really a "cool" car, and not one that really brings a performance image to mind, contrasting the Chevy Cobalt, Honda Civic Si, mazdaspeed 6, etc.
