Big D has a good start. When does it get jerky? Have you changed the fuel filter? There are a number of components that people can tell you to check. If your check engine light comes on, stop into an auto supply store and have them read and reset it for you. Sometimes you can do this yourself with a Chilton manual. It being an 04, the book is out there.
