We are looking at a bigger car and need at least a 7 seater since our family is growing. We have found a Mazda MPV 1995 model for sale for $5500 with 177,000 on the clock. Is this a good car? Can it hold 5 car seats? What is the maintenance like? Are they good on juice or guzzlers? If these are not the best cars can some people tell what is a good 7 or 8 seater car.

Well first off, these vans are known to be considerably smaller than even a normal minivan. So if size is a consideration, you may want to look elsewhere. The mileage is actually low for the age. The convention is 15,000 miles a year. So at 14 years normal mileage would be 210k. A good place to look about the maintenance is edmunds.com. I can't comment myself. However, I'm certain they have fairly small engines and in fact I believe some came with 4 cylinders (better mpg). Although, going back to the size issue, the Honda Odyssey from the same year was much larger and the Toyota Sienna - both very good on reliability in general.

Good unit. All vans are thirsty... another good one is a Nissan Quest also sold as Mercury Villager. 5500 is way too much for those miles and that year. but if that is your budget ...try autotrader or cars.com and you can find more bang for the buck.. good luck
