MAZDA 6 Xedos Overheating Problem?

Hi
My Mazda Xedos keeps overheating. It will only do a mile or so from cold before the temp gage flys up. We thought it may be the fan not working as its not kicking in at half way, but also after a short drive I checked under the bonnet & found that the engine is hot but the radiator is cold plus when I put the heating on in the car it blows cold.

We were advised to use K Seal for a very small leak in the water pump. We did this to try and stop the leak and to try and solve the overheating problem, the leak has stopped but the problem with the heating is still baffling us.

Any ideas would be appreciated. As we have not had the car very long & are not machanics help with how to find the parts are under the bonnet would also be helpful with a solution.

Thanks in advance

its your thermostat the thermostant allows the water to flow between the engine and radiator if it breaks its stays closed. how to find it. on most cars you can find the hose that goes from your radiator to the enjine where that hose meets the enjine take it off and its in there and from there its all puzzle work take it apart buy a new thermostat and gasket seals and you should be good cheap easy fix!!

I agree with Brie, the first thing I would do is replace the thermostat. It should be about 8.00 U.S. Dollars and is fairly easy to replace.

It is currently stuck in the closed position.

Do not continue to drive this car, you can cause thousands of dollars in damage by overheating.

If the engines red hot and radiator is cold then there is a blockage between the two...prob. thermostat not opening to let cold water from radiator to flow to engine block...water pump not working ..?.. DO NOT DRIVE CAR when it is like this you will fry the engine (warp head/ crack head) and then it will cost you an arm and a leg to fix.. look at the radiator..why isnt the engine sucking water from the radiator like it should??? water pump ..thermostat..
good luck.. it's prpb cheap fix if you havent already done damge by driving it when hot..!!
