mazda 3 -stick shift or automatic?

im planing to buy a mazda 3 and i would like to hear from people who own the 3. Which transmission is better for the mazda 3. Manual or auto?

Manual every time.

If you're in trouble and need to throw out the anchors, then in an auto, all you can really do is put your foot on the brake and... hope.
In a manual you can use engine braking, even if you're going downhill, and so the whole car feels much more engaged and useful.

You lose about 3bhp with an auto which isn't really an issue, but it is noticeable.
 
I rented the auto for 2 weeks and didn't want to give it back.
BTW the auto comes w the option to be in the gear you want to be in you know those - what are they called - auto shifters?
