I drove to work today, it was fine. I got in my car at lunch, and the check engine light was on, and nothing appeared wrong. I immediately get ulcer- bad stressed. I am broker than broke and can't afford any extra expenses. I checked the oil, which was almost completely gone (I'm not kidding about being broke, I haven't been able to afford an oil change in 7800 miles). So I go and charge my oil change, and the light is still on. I would love to get a hold of and OBD II reader, but you can't rent/borrow them in California anymore.

Has anyone had this problem or know how much damage I can expect? Or does anyone know if there are preset mileage alerts on the Mazdas for service? The mileage is 112120ish and it's a 2004.

OR does anyone live in the valley/LA area and have a reader they could help me out with?
Soo...
I don't plan on ignoring it. I currently work 3 jobs, and I just need to know how many extra hours I'm gonna have to squeeze in there.

I can't borrow/rent a reader in Cali, and auto part stores can't check it for you. It's a liability and illegal in cali. Every place I've called has been 90-150 just for the reading.
