Im going to be getting a car soon, and ive narrowed my two choices down to a Mazda 3 or a Scion tC (used, not new). Ive heard positive things about both, but there is a large price difference.

I would like to know which is better, the 3 or the tC, and I dont want a personal opinion, I would like opinions from someone whos owned either of the two cars.

I have driven the two cars, but not owned them.

Scion is made by Toyota so they are reliable.
I have a Mazda Protege-the old version of Mazda 3. It has been good to me so far. I drive it hard every day and it has 140,000 miles on it. I expect to it reach 250,000 miles.

0-60mph time for both cars are exactly the same for manual transmission versions at 7.4 seconds if you are talking about the Mazda 3 with the 2.3L engine or the Mazda 3"s".

The Mazda handles much better, comes with more features, higher resale value, better fuel economy, more fun to drive, cheaper insurance, and more practical.

The Scion is cheaper to maintain and fix, looks sportier, and is a bit more reliable.

Overall, the Mazda 3 is a better car.

My girlfriend BRIEFLY (2 months) owned a 2008 Mazda 3. The car spent more time on a lift than on a road and rust already started to appear (rust is a common problem on those). Needless to say the car got lemonlaw'd, she bought a 2008 Honda Fit Sport and now she's a happy camper. In other words the tC seems to be the better choice.
