Mazda 3 Keyless remote not working, why?

I have 2 keyless remotes for my Mazda 3. One is on my key ring, and the other kept as a spare in a drawer. All of a sudden the Lock button won't work on either of them to lock the car. The Unlock and Panic buttons both work. I think it is some kind of sensor issue because it is strange that only the lock button on 2 remotes does not work. I am trying to avoid a trip to the dealer. Any ideas what is going on? Thanks.
