Maybe it's just Kunis?

If you think about it...the Meg problem on Family Guy didn't really start till season six. Prior to that in seasons four and five she had a total of 6 episodes and a sub-plot revolve around her. True...there was Meg-bashing jokes but atleast she had episodes with something to do.

Well, anyway, the excuse for post-season five treatment of Meg has been that the writer's don't know what to do with her. Is that really the case or is it that Mila Kunis is just more busy now and can't attend many recordings? In 2008 she was the lead in two high profile movies, Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Max Payne. And she has other big roles coming up. So...maybe thats it? Besides, the writer's didn't seem to have a problem with her before. (And, yes, I know there has been different staffs of writers)

Look at these stats:
2 of the 7 season one episodes were Meg-centered. It's true that these episodes could be considered Peter episodes, but she played a big part nonetheless. Also, more amazing is that she actually got more attention than the other characters. Stewie, for example, only had sub-plots during this season. While Brian, Lois, and Chris only had one episode revolve around them.

4 of the 21 season two episodes revolved around Meg. In this season she takes a back seat to Stewie, Brian, and Lois but she got more attention than Chris. It should also be noted that two of the episodes were one the highlights of the season. You had the Real World-esque episode as well as the Lando Griffin episode.

In season three she only had one episode revolve around her, but had four sub-plots. But, anyway, in conclusion 11 of the first 50 episodes had Meg doing something. Which is better than now (7.5 out of 66) and pretty good considering that Peter, Stewie, and Brian are essentially the lead characters. And Lois is the main secondary character. So...considering that she's at the bottom of the barrell she did okay. Probably better than Chris.

In my opinion, maybe Meg should leave the series, so here's an idea for an episode if this happens:

Meg gets sick of the way the family treats her, and she moves out, regrets moving out, gets noticed as a model, enjoys the life, the family checks up on her, embarass her. Just when she's going back to the family again, she remembers how much money she's had, and immediately goes for a plane to...somewhere.

Or...

She can just kill the Griffin family, so the series ends. :D

Yes, because nobody likes Family Guy and series needs to end.

I doubt Kunis even cares what they do to Meg. It's a paycheck to her. She's an attractive actress making more money than any of us will ever see voicing a cartoon character on a mega-popular network prime-time series that's syndicated all over the place and is merchandised up the wazoo.

They probably don't know what to do with Meg, true. But everyone on staff seems comfortable using her as a punching bag. And that's probably how she's going to stay. Personally, I think it's funny. Because she isn't real. My friends and I say stuff like "Shut up, Meg" and "Who let you back in the house?" whenever we want a cheap and easy laugh.

I can't be the only one here who thinks this stuff is funny.

I enjoy Meg bashing. Anyways, the only reason why these things happen to Meg is because Fox added her in, and this is probably the writers' way of dealing with that.

Wasn't Meg always part of the show from the very beginning? I'm pretty sure she was. If they really didn't want to use the character anymore they're write her out. Simple as that. They've done it before.

FG wasn't originally going to include Meg, but Fox forced them to include a daughter character in the show. Anyways, I think they're having too much fun abusing her to write her out by now.

On one of the commentaries, Seth asks Mila if she minds the abusive treatment Meg gets. She simply replies that she finds it hilarious.

I really don't mind, she's a very weak character, although her character in the pre-revival seasons reminds me immensely of one of my friends. Besides, like DarthGonzo said, I use those Meg quotes ("Meg...who let you back in the house?") all the time for an easy laugh...

Actually, the unaired pilot that eventually became Family Guy titled Life with Larry, there was only Larry (Peter), a wife (Lois), a talking dog (Brian) and a teenage son (Chris). Meg and Stewie were added later.

That's a good point.

Exactly. I didn't expect so many supporters of Meg being a less developed buttmonkey. I don't mind the Meg jokes, but it's all so over the top that it's not even funny anymore. I don't see why the writers can't make her (and Chris too) more developed.

Is Mila drunk? Please tell me this is BS.

Also, of course the writers can't find development, they don't give a crap about the characters anymore!

Now when I think about it, this is Fox's fault, if they didn't include a daughter, I wouldn't bew hining right now.

I'm sorry for the ranting it's just that, I don't see how abusing people is funny. What if Meg was, say, African-American?

I just wish they would try with Meg like they do Haley on American Dad. I understand that Haley's in college so most things are free game with her, but they at least develop her more. But I guess writing for an unpopular high school girl with no other real traits is different that writing for a sort of slutty liberal college girl.

Other cartoons know how to write for the "loser" character, and develop mass episodes around them, so I don't know what the deal is.

You guys all just want to Family Guy to be something it's not because you don't like the direction the show has gone in. What's done is done and now Meg is everyone's spitoon.

The problem here is that many people who are against this are looking for something deeper when it comes to these characters. If they develop characters like Chris and Meg they run the risk of turning the show into something else entirely, which then prevents them from utilizing the type of humor that they're comfortable with. I hated Meg back when she had a personality and I believe the writers realized they really didn't like her much either. So this is what she's become.

And if Mila Kunis thinks what they've done to her character is hilarious who are we to judge?
