Maybe it was a bad idea going to 150 mg of effexor xr

maybe it's a breakthrough panic, can you get a small rx for some benzos while you settle into the new dose? let your doctor know what you are doing too. that way he will understand and be more cooperative to your problems.

Day 3 of 150 of effexor. I went from 75 to 150. i was only on 75 for two weeks, but since i had no side effects from the 75 and felt fine my doctor upped my dose to 150 mg. Only problem so far is increased anxiety, i feel it in my stomach, that constant anxious tension. I'm also taking propranolol 40 mg twice daily, and i actually think thats helping from keeping my heart racing, cause if i wasn't on it i bet you right now it would be racing, cause thats the feeling i have in my chest right now, cept it's not racing cause of the beta blocker.

What do you think though, see about going back down to 75 mg, or just suck it up and give it a week and see if the conditions subside? It's not life or death, and maybe i'm just nervous and thats why i'm anxious cause of the dose increase.

Is 150 even considered a high dose of effexor xr though? Everything i read said it's the average dose. I shouldn't have elevated BP on this dose right? So far so good Blood pressure wise. I ahven't been sleeping though, and my doc is making wait another month before thinking about adding soemthing to the effexor for sleep. I'm thinking trazodone.

Nah! i'm feeling better today :) I see my doc again in a month, and hopefully i can get something to help me sleep then, or maybe a benzo along with my effexor. My choices to bring up with her are Buspar, trazodone and either Ativan or Klonopin. I just need to make sure they are in high enough doses. from what i read buspar is usually always under dosed, should start at like 50 mg. I'm just worried about seratonin syndrome with another anti-d in the mix.

Now i just go with the flow until i go see my doc to update on the effexor. I have all my doctor visits done :) So now my hypochrondria ways should be less for a while... well until some other "mystery" illness i think i have shows up lol. it's been a YEAR though of so many tests, so many specialists, heart worries, them thinking i had adrenal tumors, abdominal sonograms, renal, echos, ekg's, Blood pressure problems from my anxiety. I'm just glad it's all over for now!

Well, not over over, they did find a tiny polyp in my gallbladder that has to be monitored every few months. But i'm not really worried about that, cause my doctor said it's really really small ( forgot how small) and they don't worry until they get much bigger. So i have to go for another sonogram in March to see how it's looking. I hope it doesn't grow.

how were you feeling on the 75mg? why did the doc up your dose? if i was feeling good on the 75mg i would stay there. i only take 37.5mg right now and it is fine for me. i try to stay on the lowest dose possible.

Also, last night was the BEST sleep i had in months! I only woke up in the middle of the night twice! usually i do like 4 times. I can't remeraber the last time i actually slept all the way through a night without waking up though. I don't know if it's my meRAB that gave me insomnia, or my anxiety. Then again, i probably slept so good cause i only got 3 hours of sleep the night before cause i was nervous about my ophthalmologist appointment i had yesterday. ( which once again turned out to be nothing wrong lol)

well, i meant i felt good, as in no side effects really. I didn't feel like i was taking anything. It was my idea to up the dose, since i never really responded to any SSRi's i have taken. I'm sure this anxious feeling will pass though! I felt like this the first few days of taking the 75, but it went away. I guess this why they usually give a small dose of a benzo while starting this, to take the edge off while your body gets used to it.

Can i ask you something off topic? I'm also on a beta blocker, as i posted above. Now between this and the effexor xr..what am i supposed to do if i get sick witha cold or flu? I haven't been sick for like the past year, but haven't taken anything while taking a beta blocker. I always forget to ask my doctor too. is it safe to take something like nyquil? I'm guessing not lol. But what are we supposed to do when sick with something? just ride it out on no cold/flu medication?

You are sounding really good, Lourage. There is a lot of hope showing through in the lastg two posts. I hope it keeps up for you. The increased dose in Effexor seems like it was a good choice for you!! :)

i'm actually on atenolol, a beta blocker for high blood pressure, too, been on it for 8 years. i've taken everything with it. never really thought about it interacting with anything. as for cold medicines that they say you shouldn't take if you have high blood pressure, i have taken them, most pharmacists said if my bp is under control then they should be okay, but just be careful.

and for what it's worth, i still get racing heartbeats even with the beta blocker. when i have anxiety. my resting pulse is 104 on it, it was 130 before i went on them. crazy eh?

Thanks zekat, I really feel no different anxiety wise though! and i have that constant anxious feeling again today. Usually always shows up at nightime. Now i'm not a doctor or anything, but what i think is happening, is as the hours go on my propranolol is wearing off, which in turn is making me feel some side effects from the effexor, that are otherwise masked during the day from the beta blocker. But the only symptom i have is the feeling like my heart is racing, even though it's not, like that constant butterflies in my stomach feeling. Plus i had a bad nights sleep again, so figures i had a bad nights sleep and have the anxious feeling again, yet yesterday i felt great, especially after exercising.

Plus i did some more reading up on effexor and so many things i have read said it shouldn't be prescibed for people when the primary symptom is social anxiety ( which i have) or else it can cause more nervousness, which is what i think i'm feeling. But then again right on it's site it says it's prescribed for GAD, as well as SAD, i have both though i think lol plus OCD, agoraphobia, and insomnia thrown in for good measure, so who knows! I guess i'll stick it out for another month and see what happens. I'm stil checking my Blood pressure, cause it's possible it can go up the effexor, but so far it's been great.

WOW. i can't imagine my HR being that high at resting all the time, Even when it's at like 90-110 for me i flip out and think it's going to explode. Highest mine was was around 120 i think when i was in the hospital. Yea, my Bp and HR still spikes on the propranolol, i only been taking them for 3 days though, before them was metoprolol at 50 mg twice daily. I still my face flushing and i'm still sweating through the propranolol :( Maybe i need a higher dose? i checked my BP on them though and it was 115/59. Yet i still feel like it's high. i feel "hot" i think it's the upped dose of effexor.
