Does anyone know what the max power out is on an M50? My wife bought me a heated jacket (44W draw) and I'm trying to figure out if I can also use heated gloves and/or heated pants.

I believe the stator's charging output is 16 amps/ 260 watts. As the system is capable of handling a 110 watt light bar with a touch left over, you will be fine with the gloves and jacket (44+27= 71) but pretty much at the limit with the gloves, jacket, and pants (44+44+27= 115). I wouldn't go with more than the jacket and gloves, because even though you can provide the watts (barely) to power all three the low amp output means they just won't get very warm- the more pieces you add, the less heat you get from each. I have the whole suit, and on my Suzuki I just wear the jacket and gloves.
On the Harley, which has a 40 amp, 500 watt system, I can wear the jacket, pants, gloves, and socks, and it still gets twice as warm as just the jacket and gloves on the Suzuki. In fact, I have to be real careful because I have given myself blisters on more than one occasion by turning the controller up all the way for too long. I am considering having a local alternator shop make me a high-output stator for the Suzuki, to boost the output up to around 32 amps so I can wear the pants on this bike also.
But honestly, unless it is in the mid 30s I don't wear the pants anyways, and I only add the pants and socks if it is below freezing. If you keep your trunk warm, your body will push more blood into your legs and you will stay warmer.

Ok...thanks a lot for the info. I had also considered doing heated grips. Not sure if I want to them in addition to or in place of the gloves (or vice versa...gloves vs. grips). So many choices, so little time!! LOL! Again, thanks.

Yeah, the heated jacket my wife got me is GREAT!! I've already put it to use several times. It's from Gerbing's. BTW, Dr. Bob, would you happen to know the approx. cost of a high output stator? $200? $300? Thanks.

How do you hook up the power? Iwas wondering if you can use the pig tail from the one of the small battery trickle chargers.

Yup, you are much better off sticking to the power supply harness from Gerbing.
The 40-amp stator for my Harley was about $250, but that was an off the shelf kit, which is always cheaper then custom work. I haven't priced it at an alternator shop yet, but I imagine $350 is about right, based on other projects I've done in the past.
As for heated grips, I don't like them nearly as well as the gloves. The gloves heat the back of the hands where the wind is stripping away the heat, while grips only heat the palms. You can also take our hand off the bars and still get heat with the gloves, while the grip only heat when ou are grasping them. Not to mention that if you have a good pair of insulated gloves, the heat is on the wrong side of the insulation, so if you go with the heated grips get a thin pair of gloves.
The Gerbing gloves are good quality, and well insulated and wind proof, so even when you go not have them plugged in they are nice and warm.
