Does anyone know the maximum number of TVs I can run from one dish?

My current contract runs out in October and when it does I'll be upgrading to HD. I can't do without the PVR now, either, so given that I'll have one TV running an HD PVR and the other TVs won't be HD, what is the maximum number of TVs from one dish?

Thanks in advance.

Jake

Welcome to the forum. I've lost track of how many times this question has been asked. Please check the installation threads (pinned to the top of the EV forums) and do a search for SW44.

with switches, you can have more boxes hooked up than you can watch (alot)
using 4x4's cascading, or 2x4's feeding 2x1's, or 2ghz splitters, feeding 4x4's

Using dishpro plus gear you could hook up 40+ receivers. But the most you can have on your account is 6.

I don't think there is a Maximum number of actual TV's you can run from one Dish, you would just need to amplify the RF signal leaving the Satellite receiver and the use splitters to feed hundreds of TV's.

If you are wanting to know how many receivers you can run from a Dish well that depend on how much money you have, again its into the hundreds. Express Vu feed entire 400 unit Apartment buildings with just one Dish.

I ended up seeing all of the posts about splitting etc. after posting. For some reason I didn't think it was possible due to the requirement of pulling from two satellites but I appreciate the replies. It's a big relief. I really can't do without the PVR and was worried that going HD PVR was going to limit me to having 3 TVs, not that that would be the end of the world ;)

Here's a rhetorical question to anyone involved in building new houses: why aren't 4 lines run from the dish location in every new house? I've got a 1.5 year old house and I've got to drill and wire in order to get 4 lines to my dish. What a pain in the ass. And since the first two lines go through the walls, my next two lines are going to follow a completely different path and end up substantially different lengths.

Anyone know if having the feed lines 10-30' different lengths will hurt my picture?

Yes, the picture will be lop sided to either the left or the right depending on which cable is plugged in first!

ARR, you are almost as cruel as me.......lol

No real issue at all, is the real answer.

you are lucky
builders in the gta charge at least $70, just to rough in a line to the basement (not run to the panel or demarcation point, you get to extend it later!)
builders are cheap, and dumb
they could pad their pockets some more, buy trying to sell people on advantage of having wires roughed in, but then again, it is only a few hundred $$$, so maybe its not enough money for them to worry about it
also, most rough in guys would be lost trying to figure out where on the exterior to run the wires to, even with a compass

I should have done my research. I was focused on PVR and thought that 2 lines would be enough. $25, $70, it's all a drop in the bucket when you're building.

To ARR - thanks. I'll be sure to try to plug them in at exactly the same time. By the way, my mechanic told me I was low on "turn signal fluid." I looked everywhere but I can't seem to find a local retailer. Do you know where I can get some?
