I'm quite surprised I haven't posted here, I loved the movie. It was clever, unexpected, genre-twisting, and talk about sizzling chemistry between JRM and Scarlett Johansson! But both of them had great performances as well. Chris could've been the archtypical weak, greedy man who wants everything but JRM made him complex, filled with guilt over his actions but unable to stop his addiction to Nola - he made Chris believable and sympathetic (to a degree, anyway). And Scarlett Johansson was good as well, she turned a been-there-done-that role as the femme fatale more rounded as well. Nola wasn't a total bitch and you could again sympathise with her. You could sympathise with all the characters, that's the strength of the characterisation and the general writing in Match Point.
I've only watched one Woody Allen movie, not a bad one at that - Melinda and Melinda - but this was really good in comparison. It's an all-round excellent movie - great pacing, beliveable storyline, good directing, excellent acting/execution. I really need to watch this movie again. And watch more Woody Allen. Scoop is something similar, is it worth watching?
