Match Point: Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers (mild spoilers)

The Tennis analogy was great even though I don't understand Tennis! That's how good it was.

Scoop had its moments, the humor is sooooo cruel, though. Match Point is not so cynic, although it really could be. It's more like a fascinated look at details that may not seem important but are everything.

Scoop was more like a fun movie. Match Point was awesome. Especially that analogy with tennis and the twist!

great avatars,

I saw the movie today and it was very good. JRM and Emily gave my fav performances. I like how Woody Allen made this movie not so Woody Allen-like.

I know! That and Everybody Says I Love You. And Crimes and Misdemeanors. We really should get around to watching them!

I saw the movie yesterday and loved it. The Scarlett and Jonathan's acting was awesome. And yeah, the ending was so unexpected
I'm gald it endet that way, it made the movie special and dramatic otherwise it would've seemd like a cheap hollywood-romance. Of course I wasn't happy about it, but movie-wise I liked it :D

I made some avies:

:gah: Jonathan looks really really really good.

watching the trailer when he's being tied up made me so jealous. I should've been doing that.

Ok, I made "Scoop" sound so-so. It isn't. It's really good and entertaining. It's unique. I loved it.

Wow, I'm ashamed to admit I haven't seen many Wood Allen movies. I've just seen Scoop and Match Point. I'm always planning a Woody Allen night of classics, but it hasn't happened yet.

"Annie Hall" is TEH classic everyone always goes on about.

Hmm. I'll go check it out then. Slightly more OT, but what Woody Allen movies should I watch?

a small poster for the thread....

......everything i read about the film has been positive......it's suppose to be one of woody allen's best........and apparently woody really likes scarlett.....she's already working in his next film which is now in production.......

I agree with everyone. The movie is really good and the chemistry factor sells the romance and makes the resolution more tragic.

"Scoop", while not as good as "Match Point," is worth watching. It's really, really funny (dark humor, though) and has some good scenes.

I'm quite surprised I haven't posted here, I loved the movie. It was clever, unexpected, genre-twisting, and talk about sizzling chemistry between JRM and Scarlett Johansson! But both of them had great performances as well. Chris could've been the archtypical weak, greedy man who wants everything but JRM made him complex, filled with guilt over his actions but unable to stop his addiction to Nola - he made Chris believable and sympathetic (to a degree, anyway). And Scarlett Johansson was good as well, she turned a been-there-done-that role as the femme fatale more rounded as well. Nola wasn't a total bitch and you could again sympathise with her. You could sympathise with all the characters, that's the strength of the characterisation and the general writing in Match Point.

I've only watched one Woody Allen movie, not a bad one at that - Melinda and Melinda - but this was really good in comparison. It's an all-round excellent movie - great pacing, beliveable storyline, good directing, excellent acting/execution. I really need to watch this movie again. And watch more Woody Allen. Scoop is something similar, is it worth watching?

I just got this movie on NetFlix and I LOVED it. Highly recommend! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and Scarlet/Jonathan were on fire!!
It was so different from other Woody Allen movies- what a surprise.... If you haven't seen it- do so asap!

I love that movie cant see it over and over again Jonathan are so hot in there and scarlett are so pretty
