Mastodon

Oh, my - look at what I've started. :)

Roygbiv, maybe you should youTube some clips first, or go check out the bass thread for some ideas. I think a lot of people don't know technical terms when they're first starting out - many just don't admit it. I couldn't read music for awhile when I was teaching myself the piano and keyboard. It's been so long, though, since I've been without a keyboard or piano, that my skills have long weakened.

Anyway, back on topic:

Anyone see the Crack the Skye DVD?

Disagree with this. Blood Mountain's just a new direction. It incorporates a huge diversity of styles in it, and does some incredibly imaginative stuff musically. Maybe you haven't listened to it enough, or perhaps you're just a purist who doesn't like change.

It's pretty cool to hear them do something like that, but I like Mastodon with vocals waaay more than instrumental Mastodon.

I'm not sure whether I like Leviathan or Crack The Skye more. Crack The Skye has awesome melodies and a pretty interesting theme, but a raw, sludgy album about sea creatures is pretty hard to beat.

Like I said, clowns are the spawn of Satan himself. Now if someone made a flash version of that comic, that would be genius.

In fact, I totally would, if I was still in EAST Lab.

I`ve given it a nuraber of listens and never quite got it. I actually don`t think there is too much to get either, and I think its extremely overrated. I think the drumming though is exceptional but I certainly agree with your directionless point about the album.

I don't even really like Brent's screaming. I remeraber the first time I heard Remission and wondered wtf happened to the singer on Workhorse? Turns out it was HinRAB instead of Sanders that I was hearing and that's why the vocals were so high-pitched, monotone, and awkward sounding. I wish he was satisfied to just play guitar.
