Mass discovered: Biopsy now? or wait?

So on a CT scan for abdominal pain, my doctor found a decent sized mass behind my left kidney. She said it could be an extra spleenic body or lymph nodes, or something else. My question is....should I go ahead and ask them to do a biopsy of it? Or should I wait a while and see if it grows? I'm kind of back and forth on it because I'm not exactly healthy and undergoing another surgery could potentially make me even more sick...but at the same time I'm nervous this could be something we need to get moving on treating.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Liz

For all you are describing this is what i would do.

Always get your copies of any and all tests results of any kind.
These are yours and are available to you as you need to ask for them.

Read through all your results of tests before your next follow up appointment.
writing on paper any and all questions of your tests and options to understand your doctors views of this. Keep in mind , 2nd opinions are an option also maybe even a 3rd.

Wish you well

Since you are not healthy, and about to undergo another surgery, do not batter your body with another biopsy procedure - for now. Since the doctor didn't ask you to have a biopsy to see if the lump is cancerous, she probably believes that it is benign. My opinion is that there is no urgency in the matter - especially since you have other scheduled procedures ongoing. Take it one thing at a time - based on the priorities.
