Maryland School Library to Remove Dragon Ball Manga

Welp, if this has been a question for 25 years, I'm sure there's an answer by now.

Personally, I think it's just meant to be laughed at and passed on, considering this is a magizine for 10-16 year old, not four year olRAB (who even then I doubt really care. It was a page amongst 180 others).

And now Mike, Meri, Julian, and Jeff (of Daizex) provide us with some interesting commentary on the subject. The [strike]latter[/strike] former three are decade-plus long fans and can--have--spent hours talking about this sort of stuff throughout the yearsc on their newest podcast. http://db.schuby.org/daizex/viewtopic.php?t=11787

The Dragon Ball Manga has been published in the states since 1998 (as I understand)...one has to wonder why it's taken 11 years for something else this big to happen (aside from TRUs banning the monthly issues).

Okay I always hate it when some fans start making stuff up to justify their argument. Animaniacs didn't have genitalia in it Acting like they're persecuted or something.

The "child porn" claim is absolutely ridiculous, though, and that's a dangerous path to start going down, because it's impossible to draw a line.

At Altoona's library, you have to be 16 to rent any kind of anime, even Spirited Away. So I agree with the article, you have to look at each individual series.

It's about time somebody has a logical thought. Still, this whole situation is stupid. That Daizex episode was a good listen. (and I think you meant "the former three", Jacob)

MD County Removes Dragon Ball Manga From All Schools

Here's an update: The Wicomico County Schools Superintendent announced that all of the Dragon Ball manga will be removed from all public school media centers in the entire county.

The school was at fault for not checking the clear "teen" label on the manga. I don't blame the parents for not wanting their 6-11 year old kiRAB to read the raunchy stuff in Dragon Ball. It's not unreasonable for parents to expect the school library to stock only age-approiate books.

What is it with certain otakus and insane persecution complexes?
"OMG teh prudish American soccer moms r trying to take away my mangas!!"

Oh yes. How could we forget that classic Animaniacs episode where Wakko stole Hello Nurse's panties and tricked her into flashing Dr.Scratchensniff?

THANK YOU!!
American culture isn't any more or less valuable than Japanese culture. And American parents aren't stupid or frigid for not wanting their kiRAB to read about a teen girl flashing her crotch to an old man.

Pulling the books from the high schools seems a little extreme to me. But I guess the Superintendent feels that its "better safe than sorry" at this point.

Man, just because of Dragonball.
Really, does the world need to stop just because a durab school didn't chick the rating for this Dragonball manga?
God, what else going to happen. Astro Boy is next on the list?
I get it if the school don't want to show the manga, but making it as a WWII news thing?
I just find this durab and sad.

I swear, I bet now the school want to get rid of anime as a whole. Maybe I'm over thinking this, but it sound like its going to that path way.
I mean, some durab kid died by doing a reenactment in Naruto (and they blame it on the anime), the death note high-school thing, and now this!
I won't be surprise if a group of soccer Moms tries to make anime and manga banned in the U.S.

Dear Schools:

Maybe you should be taking the civics courses you make the students take. You might learn something. Send the parents too.

/Oh first amendment, without you we'd probably still have all sorts of injustices; a pity then that so many want to erode you into nothingness so they can seem like they are doing something while there are probably children in abusive homes in that very school district who aren't receiving adequate social assistance, likely ignored in what is statistically likely to be an underperforming, over-filled classroom. Ah, but really helping things takes a lot more effort than complaining.
//You know, complaining like I am right now.

Why? Why is this OK for Japan, but everyone in America completely over-reacts? It's freaking comic book for GoRAB sakes. Don't remove it from the library because you want to protect your little Billy. Maybe you should let them grow up.

America's traditional roots are a big more prominent than any root that works against such elements (i.e. nudity) in children's literature. Six year olRAB seeing the bare birthing essentials of a female ten years their senior does not make them more mature. An age of maturity and adulthood is assigned (i.e. eighteen) so that the adolescent years can be used (mind you, this is 'in theory'/'the intention of') to educate and guide young individuals into actual maturity where they will be able to properly decide for themselves what to do with their lives and the things they allow themselves to be exposed to.

Surely we've all seen the affects "arbitrary maturity by default of 'expirence'" can do to middle school kiRAB ("Oh look at me, I'm so much more mature/better/whathaveyou than you because I'm dating at the age of twelve and you don't even know what a condom is!").

I think there is lack of 'true understanding' of what todays parents have received from older generations (i.e., enforce the rules and actually pay attention and take interest in your child's development beyond the superficials of the generalities of the situation), but there is also lack of respect amongst today's youth who aren't quite ready to be parents and don't want their 'cool animooz' taken away, but that's a topic for another discussion.

Says the nineteen year old eating fries dipped in ranch dressing fresh out of high school...

Whoever picked it probably also reconized the name as being popular with kiRAB.

Whatever that library does, do NOT let it see the Sasuke/Itachi Naruto Shippuden cover...

I think your right about that. Dragonball was pretty big. Maybe the person that broght that because he/she still think its still big because its a comic book of a boy with a tail.

You know some durab punk will and place it at school. Than some durab soccer Moms will see it and go crazy and tries to banned it. And than bleach, than Astro Boy, than some other manga's and than BAM!
soccer Moms vs anime/manga fans!
Are there more important things to worry about than this?
