I'd like to see a new Mary Poppins film as long as it was a new adaptation of the books (like Charlie & the Chocolate Factory was a new adaptation) rather than a remake of the old film.
I always felt the Disney film was a bit of a let down, even though I like it because it is very different to the books.
The stage show was a big improvement though
Imagine who would agree to replace Julie Andrews? The studios will expect a name to play her and it will just get in the way of us believing who she is.
And also there is the post ironic take on the story that is almost obligatory as well as Julie Andrews giving a guest appearance as the old nanny who leaves.
When I first read that Mary Poppins was going to be remade I was shocked and annoyed. However, now when you think about it, it isn't such a bad idea.
Like other big classic films such as 'The Wizard of Oz', 'Gone with the Wind' and 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' people forget that Mary Poppins was origionally a book and since the film was made, people automatically think that its just a film as the film has been advertised and seen more than the origional book has.
Therefore, as long as they don't make it into a musical (like Tim Burton didn't make Charlie and the Chocolate Factory into a musical whereas Willy Wonka was) they will probably be able to create quite a good film which is also true to the book rather than closer to the first Mary Poppins film made.
I also hope that if they make another MP film, they would get someone to play Bert who has (or can do) a much better Cockney accent
