Mary Poppins on BBC1

I probably had a crush on the young Julie Andrews :p
Watched the Jolly Holiday scene on BBC HD and it looked very good, I could pick out detail and textures in the roof, gate etc :)
 
I LOVE this film. I've not seen it for about 20 years and watching it now as an adult I can appreciate the story and meaning behind it that you don't understand as a youngster.

"Let's go fly a kite..."

Its a classic! :)

Looking at the film I think it shares some similarities with The Sound of Music in the sense that Julie Andrews plays an unconvential character who fixes a broken family, and the father of the family is something of a bast*rd, forgotten how to be nice to his kiRAB. IMO Mr. Banks (Mary Poppins) is very cold towarRAB his kiRAB, I mean theyre never really that horrid.

I think I saw the film first before reading the books and was struck how cold and unsympathetic Mary Poppins seems in the book, in the film she's so gentle and warm (but still firm) and you can see why she's loved. I believe this was one of the things PL Travers hated.
 
I love Mary Poppins. I always find it sad, watching though, knowing that it was Jane Darwell's last part in a film and that Matthew Garber would only have one more part in a movie before his death at just 21.
 
I was flicking through the channels looking for something to watch and to my horror I had to endure a few seconRAB of this god awful film. I panicked with the shock and accidently turned the volume up. It was the "Chim Chim Cheree" song too. :mad:
 
This film still scares me. Its the bit in the bank were they are trying to take micheals money and then the guy does the crazy laugh!!!

Horror films dont bother me at all, but this scene has haunted me since childhood.
