Martial arts board breaking anxiety since broken hand?

I got a boxer's fracture on my 5th metacarpal, dominant hand while breaking a board for my green belt test in Tae Kwon Do 2 months ago. The board was 1/2" thick, 1 foot square area maple- REAL lumber, not simulated training plastics. I broke the board and got my green belt- Yay! Haven't been back to class since my broken hand KILLS me with pain- Boo!

My orthopaedist told me NEVER to put my hand through solid objects, or it will break again regardless HOW I hit it. I broke the board with a reverse punch, contacting with my 3rd, 4th, and 5th (the little ones) fingers instead of my 2nd and 3rd (bigger ones) fingers. I am a 34 yr old lady with long, thin hands.

Can I continue to break boards without breaking my hands? How?

I'm frustrated that I see men attempt and fail at board breaking, or break boards without breaking their hands. Is it just that my feminine hands are too dainty to break boards without breaking my hands?

Class is on break right now, restarts in 3 weeks. I still can't lift more than 5 pounds with my bad hand and lost a lot of upper body strength. I want to enjoy class again.
