Martial arts anime

The TC was referring to "realistic" martial arts portrayals. "Hokuto no Ken" is anything but. There are no energy blasts, but it does involve "superhuman" techniques, most notably the "Hokuto Hyakuretsu Ken"....

I saw a trailer for it on the One Piece Blu-ray. Looks good. I'm glad they're releasing it in partial season sets, too.
I don't know if Obari was involved in this anime, because not much is listed at ANN, but the character designer wasn't him but Kazuo Takigawa.

However, that one is not one of the "realistic" martial arts anime the TC refers to.

I don't know much about "Judo Boy" (Japanese title: "Kurenai Sanshiro", a Tatsunoko anime from the 1960's). If I had to guess, I'd say that one sounRAB like a realistic martial arts anime, if anything.

I actually have to agree with that, at least up until the point where they're fighting Bison and the series decides to show us the Hadoken attack that lasts forever. I still remeraber Ryu getting thrashed by Guile in that bar.

Whenever I see realistic martial arts animation, it's never in an actual martial arts anime. Two examples that pop into my head just instantly are some of the on-foot kung fu fights in Daimos, and one particularly well-animated fight that is really the only fight that happens in Cyber Formula SAGA.

And her rival Sakurako Miyagawa being voiced by Maria Kawanura better known as Naga the Serpent from Slayers, she even does the "Naga laugh" a few times

Damn, I was just about to mention Real Bout High School

Yeah, Real Bout High School does count as martial arts anime, exaggerated but it still counts, I like the manga better, but the anime is awesome in it's own right

Yeah, sadly I remeraber her too, and Naga's laugh was befitting for Sakurako (though that laugh is least favourite anime clich
