Another dose of creepy dead-eyed photo-realistic mo-cap is bad enough, but the fact that they applied it to one of Berke Breathed's stories just makes it even more discouraging. The guy has a great style, and mo-cap can't even begin to capture it. Yawn.

(P.S. I still want a hand-drawn Bloom County movie. Someday...)
 
From what I've read on Wikipedia, this looks to be another movie that's less about telling a story, and more about illustrating a moral (in this case, the moral about how mothers are special, and that you should be careful what you wish for). In other words, and IMHO, this is another "family" movie that's more for the parents to entertain their families with. OTOH, if this movie had more of a balance between the two parts, I probably would have been more willing to watch....
 
It is shut down, but he already had two movies in production before Disney pulled the plug: this one, and a remake of Yellow Submarine. (:sweat:) Apparently, Disney will allow these movies to be finished and released, and then shut it down. Granted, if they are successful and Zemeckis' technology improves, they may change their mind.

EDIT: Just saw the trailer. That is about the creepiest motion capture I have ever seen. The faces and eyes don't even look remotely real.
 
I should point out neither of those characters are in the book.

For what it's worth, the BOOK is one of the best picture books I've ever seen, due to the literary device where Berke hides the mom's face. You think it's going to remain a mystery for the whole book, but then she finally appears right at the most touching moment. Really well done.

The movie version doesn't look.....quite so sophisticated. Yeesh. Zemeckis is going to be forced to watch this movie in hell.
 
I really do not understand Zemeckis' obsession with this technology. I just do not see the value and exploitation and use of it in this way.

Gollum was a technological and cinematic achievement. These characters just look hideous and not likable or warm at all.
 
Isn't Seth Green pushing 40 now? Why is he playing a 9 year old? I wish Zemekis would go back to just using actors and sets instead of this nonsense anymore. It hasn't really advanced and was never that impressive the first time around as Polar Express always looked creepy to me and so have all his other movies since.
 
I actually thinks this looks less creepy than Polar Express. I might have to watch the trailer again to solidify my opinion.



From what I've seen from Polar Express and his other work (via the trailers), he's using this for the free range the cameras move. Cameras can move and roam in a three dimensional virtual space in ways it can't in live action. That's why he makes everyone look as realistic as possible. It seems that he wants this to be a live action movie.



Don't forget Avatar.
 
The commercial for this film was terrible. While seeing it during my screening of Tangled 3D, I didn't laugh or smile once. I thought that Imagemovers was closed after what happened with A Christmas Carol last year. Apparently Zemeckis had some money saved up to keep the company open for this and the already-planned Yellow Submarine remake. After reading the previous comments, the company's dead but why did Disney allow this film to be made? While looking at the characters, I didn't feel attached to any of them. The well-rounded guy who was, I think, in control of a part of Mars, made me think that the voice actor for him was going for a Jack Black impersonation. I didn't care for his little hunk of scrap metal sidekick. It reminded me of the land rover sidekick from Planet 51 and we all how the critics tore that film up to pieces. The aliens made me think of sea monkies along with them reminding me of the Minimoys/Invisibles from Arthur and the Invisibles/Minimoys, again another film that wasn't seen as great to the critics.

I took a look inside the book a while back and it was pretty interesting. I would recommend to anyone who wants a story to read to your little cousins, siblings, and kids you're babysitting, check the book. As for the film, I'm not buying a ticket for this even when it hits the only $4 theater close to my house. I rather see Cars 2 and Winnie the Pooh as the only Disney films next summer over this.
 
I love good movies. I really love good animated movies, but it's always a kick to poke fun at movies that don't look/do very well. Suffice to say that this may be an improvement in the story dpt. as far as Gnomeo and Juliet is concerned.

I didn't see a thread for it, so I guess this will do until it gets moved. I personally think the trailer is crummy. Rapping ghetto aliens, overweight techno geek stereotypes, and don't get me started on the less-then-"stellar" (:shrug:) soundtrack.

Even the kid Milo, motion-capped by an adult man and voiced by a child, has some banal lines: "No one likes zombies, Mom. They're an abomination!"

"Dog pile!" Who says this!?
 
I've been seeing the ads for it this past week or so. Some of the CGI looks nice, but otherwise it does nothing to interest me and looks like one of those movies that's just really loud and obnoxious.
