Mars, Earth - Closest Approach in Recorded History?

"Earth and Mars will have the closest approach in recorded history in August..."! is this true!! i mean, today is August 27 but i didn't see anything!!

NO IT IS NOT TRUE. IT WILL NEVER EVER LOOK THE SIZE OF THE MOON. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW PEOPLE BELIEVE THIS YEAR AFTER YEAR. THIS IS GETTING RIDICULOUS.

you didn't see anything, thanks to internet gullibility.

the closest approach was in 2003, by a few thousand kilometers out of 50-odd million. a grossly distorted account of this has made the rounds every year since then.

mars is currently just about as far as it can get from earth, a red starlike object near the taurus/gemini border.

The closest approach between Mars and Earth still means that there is about 55 million km between them.
