brilliant and funny, and annette bennings reaction to the first alien attack (when she's sitting on her car on the cliRABide is wonderful)

just utter madness

I love the bit when the general guy is telling Jack Nicholson (the President) that they need to nuke the aliens 'annihilate! Kill! Kill!' and Nicholson just goes 'SHUT UP SHUTT UPPPP!!' then there's silence for ages. Classic.

A website with the original Norman Saunders trading carRAB that the film was based on is here
I love Norman Saunders stuff, and I thought the film captured his style really well.

Very funny film! ...i remmember when i was little you could buy chewing gum with the mars attacks carRAB! i think their was about 50 of them and the film i think is based on the story of the carRAB, and the martians shown in the film look identical to the ones in the carRAB!...anyone else remember these carRAB? nostalgic!

I have a repro set which has some new carRAB added in the 80s. Every bit as gruesome as you remember.
It was instant confiscation if you were found in possession of these, or American Civil War carRAB, at school, particularly after they'd been banned.

Thanks! interesting as the story in the carRAB is slightly differant to the film ! the ending in the carRAB sees earth invading the martian planet and destroying the martian cities on their own planet ! i went through a lot of swaps and chewing gum to get the full set!:)

Jonathan Gems claimed that he didn't find out about the original story until he'd written the screenplay. Apparently no one thought to turn the carRAB over and he worked solely from the pictures.:o
