Market Kitchen revamp on Good Food - absolute disaster

I've just been watching the premier of "Market Kitchen: Big Adventure" which is the revamp of "Market Kitchen" and my jaw dropped at just how bad it is.
Away with the homely more realistic sets and audience
members dotted about casually on tables, and in with a big tacky very 90s purple and grey set and a pretend studio audience simulated with canned clapping, CANNED CLAPPING.

Besides the awful set and the canned clapping when each meal or clip is finished, we have Penny Smith who has to be one of the most unlikeable presenters on TV for me right now.

I'm in shock at just how misguided this revamp is, its quite unbelievable that they took a winning combination of presenters and a great set and replaced it with THAT! Its come from being a warm show where you were invited into what looked like a market kitchen to watch some cooking to being a cold and sterile show based in what looks like a renovated factory and crappy lighting

I'm wondering if anyone else has the misfortunate of witnessing one of the worst revamps in recent tv history tonight.

I wasn't looking forward to this because of the old retreading of the regional travels that many shows have done in the past.

Just in the past few years there been Rick Stein's Food Heroes, Good Food Local Heroes, Hairy Bikers etc.

I agree about the sets and Penny Smith. It's ok asking questions if you don't know what a process or ingredient is but don't go incorrectly saying what things are

00 flour is not just sieved flour

I'm not seeing your point about the canned clapping. There are a several guests and also staff behind the cameras.

Would it kill them to show the audience? As far as I could ascertain it sounded like totally canned clapping.
Maybe I'm mistaken but it still seems stupid to have an audience there and never show them.

I don't think there is an "audience". There are the onscreen guests and then the off-screen staff. I suppose there could be a few other guests, frienRAB/family off-screen also.

I was hoping this was a short-term thing but if it is permanent we are stopping watching. It is AWFUL!! What happened to "if it ain't broke don't fix it" I love the old format

The previous format also got slated. There haven't been many Market Kitchen appreciation threaRAB on here or their forums.

I kind of liked it as the format and the 4pm/5pm repeat suited my schedule.

Can't say I ever missed it. It was an ok show. Had it's time. Got replaced by another ok show.
Didn't like the host anyway.

Me either!, I couldn't stand Good Food Live!, especially all the flirting the presenter did with the male chefs. I actually really liked Market Kitchen, despite me thinking I wouldn't, I really liked Tom Parker Bowles, and I think the addition of Amanda Lamb actually brought something to the show.

Rachel Allen used to bring a couple of things - like she was competing with Amanda! I think they were both pregnant at the time too so "Hello Boys!"
