Mark Hamill to retire from voice acting the Joker

The article states that he's retiring the Joker role. It's in the title of the article and in the article itself. Did you read the article before you made this post?

Misleading, good he is still voice acting. But if he ever did retire, the one bright spot might be that maybe Family Guy and Robot Chicken would ease up on the Star Wars jokes.

But you can't blame the guy for getting tired of playing the same role for so long, even if it is the Joker.

I thought he had said he was doing this earlier. I might be remembering wrong but it seemed like he already did before they pulled him back in for the first Arkham Asylum. Either way, I wish him well in future endeavors. Judging from Arkham Asylum, I think his Joker voice sounds different. I wonder if that played into it a bit.

I've always enjoyed Mark Hamill's work as The Joker. He was always fun, energetic, and devilishly creative with the role. It's been a good long run for Hamill, and I thank him for all the great work he's done as Mister J. ;)As much as I like Kevin Michael Richardson, his Joker voice doesn't do it for me. :sad:I've noticed this when i started playing the game. It seems as if Hamill's voice is starting to sound a bit rusty. Don't get me wrong, he still sounded great, but after 18 years, these things start to become more noticeable.

I wish Mark Hamill all the best in future roles. 18 years of voicing the Joker, obviously three times longer than playing Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars trilogy, is very hard to argue with, but nonetheless, there are a lot of memories of him as the Joker. I remember watching Entertainment Tonight, back in 1993, where Mark was discussing playing the Joker in Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, at which he also spoke about frightening some motorists on a local Los Angeles freeway while practicing his Joker laugh. I would assume that one motorist probably thought, "Oh my gosh, that Joker laugh is coming from Luke Skywalker!" Playing the role of the Joker for 18 years, aside from playing Luke Skywalker, would have to be the role of a lifetime for Mark Hamill, and whomever succeeds him in that role won't quite have the same charisma as Mark. At the end, he'll probably say, "Hey, Batsy, catch me if you can", then finish off that line with a maniacial laugh, but that's how Mark Hamill portrayed the Joker.

I'm still holding out hope that George Lucas will come to his senses and produce a Star Wars CGI series starring his GOOD characters - Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca etc. And that Mark will reprise his role as Luke.

A kid can dream...

That is a shame since I think he does an excellent voice for the Joker. At the same time, I totally understand where he was coming from about the cartoon series ending the Joker role on a high note and maybe the passage of time made him more nervous about getting back into this role for Arkham Asylum. I'm glad that he is able to do one last hurrah as the Joker and I hope that he continues to have a successful voice acting career.
