Mark Billingham's - Thorne

Other way around since the book predates CSINY.

The writing and plotting has improved but the first few books (this is the first) were pretty silly serial killer pot boilers. I hope they don't follow the novel too closely.

I have not read the books, but I was dissapointed by the way it was shot, I didn't like the camera work. And David Morrissey seemed to be playing the same character he plays in most of these dramas.

The first episode got 655,000 (403,000 in the overnights) in a tough slot against Single Father and Downton Abbey.

The second got (389,000) in the overnights. Which will go up when the officials are published next Monday.

I, like many others no doubt, have watched them both ad free on Anytime, which doesn't register in the ratings.

Quite busy on Sundays at the moment. We're catching up with Downton on Sunday afternoons and House isn't on Anytime this weekend!!

Jus caught up. Never read any of the books, but have to say I enjoyed it. Defintely could be improved, but its not too bad. Perhaps my not having any knowledge of the books spares me from any comparisons. That said, I do agree on comments made about how it was shot. I feel that coud be improved. Not too sure about the style.

Anyway, not bad considering its a Sky one show. lately Ive enjoyed Sky1s original drama outings, the other being Strike Back!

Oh excellent! :D I just looked at Digigude and saw 3/3 so thought that was it.

:) Thanks for replying too. I'm really pleased there are more than I realised. Bit like finding money you didn't know you had in your pocket. :D

I rang up Virgin to upgrade my tv package so that I can get Sky1 months ago as soon as I heard it was coming on.

So Yes I will definitely be watching it.

I loved the books and I adore David Morrissey.

Although I never pictured Thorne looking like that - I pictured him more like Mark Billingham

The real question is why on earth Sky chose to play this on a Sunday night in a slot against two heavily trailed prestige dramas.

Surely the sensible thing to have done would have been to schedule it on an evening when it could have made more of a splash.

I watched this expecting to be disappointed - as I was with Chris Ryan's Strikeback earlier this year - and was extremely surprised. There have been a rash of new detective dramas this year but this stanRAB head and shoulders above the others. Extremely well directed, too.

Even more surprising is that the show has something like 15 executive producers and is a big co-production: all I can imagine is that David Morrissey's company was pretty much left to get on with it because it never felt like it was full of executive meddling (unlike Downton Abbey, for instance). Certainly Sky's executive producer can't have contributed much: he was the producer of Dream Team - which is just about as far from thorne as you can get! (Maybe he made the tea for all the other executive producers?)

Either way, this series deserves better scheduling and Sky should stick with it. It's easily their most exciting original drama commission to date.
