Mark Billingham's - Thorne

Strange that Billingham always wanted Morrissey in the role - he specifically says he is 6'3" in this and Thorne is 5'7" in the books!

I also pictured Thorne to be more 'paunchy' due to his diet of takeaways and lager and a bit more gruff.

I also listened to the audio books so that may have formed my opinion on what Thorne would be like too.

Jeremy Bishop did a good job of being a tit!

Was looking forward to this, but although I don't remember the nuances of the plot I know already that the murderer has been changed. I also don't recall what happened to Thorne in the last few minutes of the show.

No in the first episode he sounded more like a northerner to me, which was what shocked me. I'm sure that his dad's voice sounded like a southerner when he called him near the start of the 1st episode.

I will be watching the show, but will record the whole story before watching...

It looks dark as you say, so am looking forward to it.

Thorne was knocked out when he arrived him and injected by the murderer.

I have mixed feelings about this, I really do. I am a massive Mark Billingham fan, I have read all of the Thorne as we speak I have a few pages left in "From the dead". I enjoyed but like others I have reservations about how David Morrisey is playing Thorne. He is not as many of us imagine, I know every reader has their own view, but I also think that in this first episode at least there was not time to show how downright argumentative and moody Thorne can often be. I know they showed a bit of it when he was shouting at the girl in the hospital but he is much more of a pain in the books that he came accross in this episode. Frankly, he seemed well a bit too NICE.

I am a big 24 Fan also and not sure if Hopkins successfully got every frame right in how this was filmed either, it neeRAB to be more of a moody theme location wise, and more grittier I think.

I too am looking forward to this, saw an interview yesterday with David Morrisey who plays Tom Thorne who said that that Mark Billington wanted him to play the part of Thorne. Have seen a few trailers on various programmes and it does look good..fingers crossed.

I've not read any of the books so have come to this series 'fresh' and I think it's great. Certainly the best detective drama I've seen all year. Thorne is what I was expecting Luther to be like, and sadly it wasn't! I think the atmosphere is terrific (I jumped when Thorne was attacked at the end of the first episode even though I was expecting somethng to happen :)) and love the little sparks of spikey humour.

Shame there are only three episodes, but I can't imagine there won't be more.

Mark Billingham's storylines are first class- though I was a little put off by the amount of swearing in his books. I hope this is moderated in the tv adaptation.

Having loved the books and been eager to see it reach TV, I was looking forward to it, but now I've seen the trailers I'm a bit concerned I'll be disappointed by it, purely because it won't match up to characters and scenes that I imagined they'd be. For me, based on the trailers, it just feels like the line delivery and acting of some of the characters (esp. DM's Thorne) is "wrong".

Still, Mark Billingham has long said that DM was the man he wanted for the role, so he obviously pictured him differently - so it's me who is wrong. :)

I just hope the plot has room for the characters and relationships to grow in the same way the book did, e.g. at the very least, Thorne's dad has to make an appearance.

Yes, Tom Thorne lives in North London and he supports Tottenham Hotspur :)
i think David Morrisey however is a good choice for me, but like the others I will always now associate my Tom Thorne with David Morrisey which is a shame. Good show though x

I have loved all the Billingham books and it was actually Sleephead that got me hooked, I had reservations as well about when it did come to tv would it ultimately disappoint?

I did really enjoy that 1st episode and while some of the characters do seem different to what I expected I still believe they did a good job of putting across the characters.

Now if someone can make Reacher then life would peachy.

Please no - I love Jack Reacher, please dont ruin another character by casting someone completely the opposite of how he is in my head lol.

I dont like watching progs/films when I have already read the book - as soon as I saw David Morrissey was doing this, I didnt want to watch it. However, I gave in and watched it - so disappointed - he is certainly not Thorne (or how I imagine him to be anyway!!!) I know I cant expect the director to consult me when casting lol, but i just wish they would cast people that at least are similar to the character and they way they are described in the books!

I've also read all the Banks books by Peter Robinson and was very disappointed by the recent ITV offering of one of his books. They altered the story quite a lot and for some reason chose a book that was quite late on in the Banks series.
