Im shipping out to boot camp at Parris Island soon and I was wondering, for any Marines that have already been through it how did you stay motivated and keep yourself from quitting?. Because my biggest fear is that I am going to give up once I'm down there. Any answers from Marines or retired Marines would be great.

First, get into shape and run run run so you can deal with the physical challenges.

Make friends and motivate each other. Remember that hundreds of thousands have made it through and you can too. Be sure that once you complete boot, it will be one of the things in your life that you will very proud of doing.

The guy above isn't a Marine. There are DI's in the Marine, not TI's.

i always tell people that almost anyone can do it, they just have to want it

so my advice to you is to keep your head down and focus on the task at hand, if you really want to be a Marine you will find a way to stay motivated, good luck

For all things ( I am not a Marine, will not pretend to be one either) I think what is most important in life is camaraderie and esprit de corps that will get you through it. There is going to be at least 20 or more recruits in your platoon going through the same H*ll ( note the capital H, it is very rough, but you can do it, check out Ears Open Eyes Click on youtube).

The brotherhood will get you through, and taking it a piece at a time. Take it to the point where you say " I'm going to make it through lunchtime chow today" once you make it, set your next goal " I'm going to make it to lights out tonight"

Take one event at a time. There is no such thing as a "super recruit" who can easily do everything. You're gonna have tough times there. I remember the hump (hike up) the Reaper was hard for me since I was a small guy. I seriously considered giving up because I felt I couldn't keep up. The thought of my family and the support of fellow recruits, a DI and a corpsman there made me push through the hump. The DIs, your fellow recruits and your family (though not physically there) will motivate you to push through.

Anyone can quit. Staying takes a set of them. You will become part of the platoon and won't want to be the one who breaks. Hang in there you will become more than you ever thought you could. It will be with you the rest of your days.
