Marilyn Monroe

As aforementioned, 'Goddess' by Anthony Summers is excellent, as is 'The Assassination of Marilyn Monroe' by Donald H Wofle and for an alternative point of view, 'Marilyn Monroe' by Barbara Leaming is also a good read :) I think she just wanted to feel loved, the public gave that to her but I don't think she ever met anyone who truly loved her as 'Norma Jeane' as opposed to 'Marilyn.'

Excellent, well if you're up for watching some Marilyn films, then I highly recommend the boxset that Cunny Funt (love that name! lol) has already mentioned, it's called 'The Best Of Marilyn Monroe' and it includes: "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, How To Marry A Millionaire, The Seven Year Itch" AND "The Final Days Of Marilyn Monroe, so it would save you buying it separately :) it's on amazon for

I am interested in the life of Marilyn Monroe and have heard that there are lots of cr*ppy biopics out there about her, but 'blonde' starring Poppy Montgommery is meant to be one of the best but has had mixed reviews.

So, for those who have seen it, is it good? I am thinking of buying it but don't want to waste money on biopics that are no good.

thanks in advance! :)

I thought it was brilliant. I had seen Poppy Montgomery in Without A Trace and I think this was made before the show. It was a sort out break out role for her. I would recommend it if the price was right as it is something I only watched on a rainy weekend. It is shown every now and then on the True Movies channel on Sky.

Oh thanks for info :) Unfortunatly I don't have that channel but I may get the DVD. :)

Does the movie cover Marilyn's final years or literally beginging to end? Thanks!

Awesome! I just left you a little message on Everlasting Star :D

Even though I've been an obsessive die hard Monroe fan for over 8 years, I still think of myself as a "baby fan", I say "baby fan" because I know so many awesome people that have been fans of hers for decades.. some since Marilyn was alive! So it's nice to feel that I'm passing on my Marilyn wisdom to someone else, like they did for me! :D

I just love her, my very favourite thing to do is watch one of her movies. She is the greatest movie star that ever lived, there will never be another like her for her charisma and luminosity on the screen.
Every year on August 5th (the anniversary of her death) An LA based Marilyn fan club puts on a memorial service in the chapel where her funeral was held in 1962 and they arrange pool parties, homes and haunts tours.. for the 45th anniversary, it was even arranged for "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" to be screened at Graumanns Chinese Theatre 6! I'm hoping to go back to LA in 2012 for the 50th anniversary, I think it's going to be AMAZING :D

I regularly check the updates on the TV schedule as it lists all the Marilyn films and docu's that are going to be on UK tv for the following month, might come in handy for you!

I'll go on Estar now :) Thanks for all your reccomendations.

Wow the service day event sounRAB quite good! I agree, I do think it will be hard to ever beat Marilyn's persona and presence in which she seemed to have around her. I wish London had some Marilyn exhibitions!

There have been quite a few different Marilyn exhibitions in London over the years, but sadly I have never been able to get time off work to travel down and see them. The most recent Marilyn 'event' being a one-woman Marilyn play *highly acclaimed by Marilyn fans!* that was showing in the West End for nearly a month, but that finished last Oct.
The last time I was in London, Planet Hollywood had 2 of Marilyn's outfits from her movies "Bus Stop" and "A Ticket To Tomahawk" plus some jewellery and her high school year book. Any permanent Marilyn exhibitions are always in LA or America, the closest thing we have is an exhibition that's being displayed in Jersey since Jan 2009-Sept 2010. It has SO many iconic Marilyn gowns from her movies (including dresses from Some Like It Hot, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, There's No Business Like Show Business etc) and personal items and artwork. I went there last July and apart from going to Hollywood, that was the BEST Marilyn related thing I have ever done! I got goosebumps when I was there, it was like she was in the room with me :D

That's the one thing that makes me so sad, is that back in 1999, all of Marilyns personal belongings and movie memorabilia were sold off at Auction in New York... I would much rather have had one giant Marilyn museum permanently than to think that all these fabulous pieces of history are scattered around the world, probably never to be seen by fans again :(
xx

Totally agree! How good would a full museum be! Really shouldn't have auctioned them off, still I guess only the fans are only to care about that-some people just want to make money. Pretty much like when Marilyn was alive.

I must keep updated on Marilyn updates, all different things happen and get released so It's good to be in the know :)

I'm afraid it doesn't have all her movies in that boxset, it's missing:
The Shocking Miss Pilgrim, Scudda Hoo! Scudda Hay!, Clash By Night, Dangerous Years, Love Happy, A Ticket To Tomahawk, The Prince And The Showgirl, The Asphalt Jungle, O Henry's Full House, The Fireball, Home Town Story, Right Cross and her last uncompleted film 'Somethings Got To Give' which can be found on Marilyn: The Final Days
