Marilyn Monroe

I saw "The Seven Year Itch" recently.

Whatever her life was like and whatever people say about her, the thing that is astounding is how beautiful she was.

For me it transenRAB everything else, everything else ceases to matter when you look at that face.
I'm not gay BTW.

It doesn't surprise me that her life was awful, that people used her. It kind of is to be expected when something that extraordinary (her beauty) comes along. People could'nt cope and neither could she.
Much like the way genius is both hard for the person and hard for those around them.

I agree with practically everything you just said there-and that's from someone who only knows the key facts that everyone seems to know. I can't really class myself as a fan of Marilyn (yet) because i'm still 'adjusting' to what she was about, what she wanted to be portrayed as etc. I really hate it when somebody automatically 'becomes a fan' of someone who is just going to be a quick phase in their life. May sound silly and odd but I believe a fan is more of a personal experience. Something that lives with you and makes up your personality. I believe (from what little Marilyn fans I have seen) Marilyn fans are very dedicated and loyal to her name-something which she would have been proud of.

I intend to find and read more about Marilyn, as a figure of someone who was-and will be the most recgonsiable and talked about figure of all time.

I haven't had the pleasure of seeing her films yet but something about has drawn me to her. I looked her up on the web to find out everything about one day and spend hours reading about her. Her death however, i am not sure whether it was murder or not. But she is one actress who can never be replaced. Anna Nicole Smith reminded me of her in some ways.

No its a black comedy she starred in. The famous white dress scene is in.

My fave Monroe movie is Bus Stop. I think she was fab in it but acting wise her best has to be her final film, The Misfits. She was ace in that.

I recently bought this from Amazon.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Complete-Ma...ef=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1270628230&sr=1-1

It contains all her major films. A good bargin when you get the following:

ALL ABOUT EVE
AS YOUNG AS YOU FEEL
BUS STOP
DON'T BOTHER TO KNOCK
GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES
HOW TO MARRY A MILLIONAIRE
LET'S MAKE IT LEGAL
LET'S MAKE LOVE
LOVE NEST
THE MISFITS
MONKEY BUSINESS
NIAGARA
RIVER OF NO RETURN
THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH
SOME LIKE IT HOT
THERE'S NO BUSINESS LIKE SHOW BUSINESS
WE'RE NOT MARRIED

I love Marilyn Monroe and I have the whole collection including... books, DVRAB, bedding, canvasses and even a Marilyn Monroe ironing board LOL. I think she's the most beautiful person ever to have lived... and isn't it amazing that we're still having conversations like this about her 48 years after her death... it's just like a discussion is going on about a current actress, and I think thats why Marilyn is so amazing, as she will live on forever.

I've never got her. I find her annoying and I have no idea why. Maybe it's because she is like Betty Boop and she is annoying as well.
Her acting leaves me cold as does her singing. I do wonder if she is loved so much because she died so young and that's about it. If she hadn't would she have ended up like all those other movie stars such as Jane Russell, Betty Grable etc and gone into obscurity as they aged and could no longer fulfill the requirements of being a "Hollywood Bombshell?"

Hi Moly. I have two Marilyn Monroe Boxsets that have most of her films on, but I also have another DVD set which has three of her films on, they are 'How To Marry A Millionaire', 'The Seven Year Itch' and 'Gentlemen Prerfer Blondes'. From one Marilyn fan to another I'd be willing to loan you these to watch, just to get you started if you like? Let me know either on here on PM. :)

Ooooh I say! I will deffinatly be looking into those, thanks!

I know! It's a definition of a true icon if we are discussing her all these years on, shame she can't see this :(

Many poeple I have spoken to regard her as an airhead who can't act. I couldn't disagree more. I regard her a fine actress who was never overshadowed by the male leaRAB for like Jack Lemmon.

Oooh er! Let me get back to you on that- You are very kind indeed! :)

BTW I've requested a thread merge between this and the other Marilyn thread-so less confusing! :D

Awww bless ya!, yeah that's the Final Days you're looking for. The main reason this is so special is because it includes some of the finished footage of "Something's Got To Give" (Marilyn's last uncompleted film) made into a mini movie (it's about 40mins long). For me.. watching "Something's Got To Give" just breaks my heart... to think what she could have achieved had she lived, I am confident had she lived to complete the film, it would have been a glorious success and a firm favourite among the fans. She simply glows in it.

As for books, "Marilyn Monroe: Private and Undisclosed" by Michelle Morgan is the only Marilyn Monroe biography you will EVER need! And don't just take my word for it.. I know people who have been Marilyn fans for decades and must have read every single book ever made on her life and they all say that this book is one of the best ever written on her life. It was only released around 3 years ago, so you can easily pick up a copy from amazon.com, it costs

Thanks so much! I am deffinatly going to join that board, you Marilyn fans are great haha. Also, I do want to check out some of her movies-I guess I didn't word that right originally lol! Your help has been amazing and I'm deffo looking into that book. On my amazon basket I have added so much marilyn stuff there that you suggested haha.

I know! Charity shops are amazing and I have seen some MM stuff there in the past which i regretably didn't buy (I've only rescently become of interest to her). I will deffo get in contact with you about the MM dvRAB, as I am quite looking forward to seeing them :D
