Map reading for T|T ?

Any suggestions anyone -

I want to read Ordnance Survey maps on my Tungsten T. Either I try scanning them into a jpg file, then view as a picture or get some more specific map software. If I have to view as a jpeg are there any excellent viewers worth using which can zoom in *really* close? Alternatively is there any really good map software for the palm? Obviously for either method, the cheaper the better!

I see pocket PC's have totally got the edge regarding accurate map reading software with TrackLogs digital mapping. Why isn't Palm trying to keep up with pocket PC's on this?

I personally like scanning to jpb or bmp, and reading with ACID IMAGE PRO 3.011.

They have a trial available and I think it's either 15 or 30 days, which would give you plenty of time to play with it. I have never cared for any of the map software I've seen and/or tried.

Seems you have specific needs anyway (as do I) and AI would give you great zooming, clarity and speed and allow "drag and drop" with a Card REader right from your PC to the DCIM folder on the SD Card.

I flinched at the $49 price, but it is FAR superior to Resco, Splash, Fireviewer or any other viewer - in fact there's a FREEWARE one called VFS Viewer which I would also rate better than most but it "hangs" occasionally on a T3.
 
I have to disagree with some of the comments below. I recently abandoned AcidImage in favour of resco because of it's superior capability. Resco loads jpg images much faster than AcidImage and gives much greater flexibility.

In terms of displaying maps, have you looked at the Fugawi software? It's not cheap but it does give you a seemless 1:50,000 OS map on your PC with the capability to export sections to your Palm. On the handheld you can scroll and zoom.
 
Resco is good too, and glad you like it. I'd rate it a STRONG 2nd and if you prefer its features, then it's for definitely for you.

My only reservation about Resco, and the reason I purchased AI, is if you have it load thumbnails to load the images faster, you either tie up a lot of RAM, or if you want the thumbnails stored on the card, Resco makes a jillion little "11k shadow files" next to EACH image on the card; I found this to be "clutter."

AcidImage loads a thumbnail FILE for each folder's contents of images and depending on HOW MANY images, this can be large. However, it makes only 2 files per folder, and then keeps track of things in the "AcidImage" Program file with .aag files for each folder. This is where ALTERING images or deleting them, using AI or a file utility, used to lead to loading problems over time.

By deleting these from time to time, or when you do a lot of "editing," AI is forced to "refresh" the list and you have less crashes in the long run loading from a large database of images.

It's all personal - but I found AI to drag images faster and more responsively, and the controls are just more "familiar to work with" for me. Both Resco and AI, however, outshine any other "image app" IMHO. They also don't put copies of things on the PC, which if deleted (even though you didn't ASK they be put on the desktop) will delete the handheld's copy as well.

SplashPhoto does this. It will "take over" image databases you had planned for Resco or AI, load them on the desktop without your consent, and if deleted on the desktop -- poof -- they're gone from the handheld too!!
