Some family friends gave my husband a painting the wife painted. It's hideous. I hate it! For years, it has hung above the fire place. I kept it because it was sentimental but every time I look at it, I wonder why I have let it stay there. The friends rarely come to our house. I know it's a gift, but it dawned on me that the couple that gave us this painting has a beautiful home and they don't have this sort of painting anywhere in their own home. The painting looks like a half-baked attempt to keep up with Bob on PBS (the guy with the afro that spoke softly and talked about happy trees). So I took it down and replaced it with something I like much, much better and the room has livened up. Was this terrible of me to do so?
Manner wise, how is the best way to handle unwanted gifts?
