Manly Woman in Animation

I'm kind of wondering how they're defining 'Manly' in this definition too. For me, it looks like people are confusing 'manly' with 'tomboy'. Manly implies conforming to what men sorta look like, like female bodybuilders.

Revy from Black Lagoon isn't physically manly.

Neither is girl-type Ranma. The irony has always been that despite his boyish attitude, girl-type Ranma is just WAY TOO PHYSICALLY ATTRACTIVE to be ignored as a woman.

A "manly" woman might be Sailor Uranus, perhaps.

Granny Goodness from the DC animation series also definitely qualifies.

I'm pretty sure that being manly and feminine don't have to do much with sexuality. Manly seems to define a more macho/tough mindset where is feminine is more along the lines of being sensitive (Not that people can't be tough and sensitive mind you).

As for Spinelli, having a crush is something all gender go through whether sensitive or macho, so I can't really say that crushing on a guy contradicts her tomboy attitude.

Even then, if we were to go by your definition, she would count as a tomboy still:

1. That crush you bring up, she displays the symptoms of a crush, but she never allows for one moment of being satisfied with that feeling nor does she display any happiness towards her crush.

2. She actually takes offensive towards being refered to as a girl even if it's not being used in a negative way.

I know it isn't official, but my rendition of a 13yr old Maggie Simpson is pure tomboy, but she has a crush on the 22yr old Milhouse and despises Lisa:

Wait what? When did lesbian = manly? There's a lot of feminine girls who like other girls... they would be defined as 'lipstick lesbian'. (as opposed to the common 'butch' stereotype.) And I know a tomboyish girl who is completely straight so... not quite sure why that was implied in this topic.
