Anyone seen this film? I thought it was fantastic, excellent well made and surprisingly emotional film, checked Rotten Tomatoes and was surprised as more people hated it then liked it?
I loved Man on Fire. Hollywood action films had been on a major downfall in the last few years but this was a cracker and Denzel Washington was magnificent although Dakota Fanning nearly stole the film for me. The ending was different to the 'typical' Hollywood standard and one I was not expecting. A lot of people had complained about the editing and direction but I thought it was spot on.
Man on Fire was originally made around 1987/1988 with Scott Glenn - and that version was absolutly awful.
Was on Sky Movies last night, my mum put it on the planner although neither of us have watched it yet. Have to say the premise looked good on paper, but it's Denzel Washington whom I don't rate much as an actor, so his presence may destroy the film for me before I've even seen it. Still I might give it a go. Looks like a good 2 hour action no brainer, my kind of film!
Don't like Denzil either as an actor but he didn't detract me from the film here, he does a good job. Not your typical 'no brainer' action film though.
The released version was heavily cut to make it more of an action film and bring it within the 120min timescale. This explains why it is disjointed in some areas. If you watch the extras on the DVD the Director explains that the original story line had Denzil and the mother of the child having a sexual relationship. It is hinted at in the released version but that's all.
One of my favourite films this, spectacular I thought. Denzel Washington is a fantastic actor, and Dakota Fanning is a fantastic actress - throw in Christopher Walken and they couldn't really miss...
But the story is brilliant and was really well written and yeah, I thought it was excellent
