rousseau be related to law? I can't figure out how this quote is related to law other then the idea of legal paternalism and (in Canada) the reasonable limits clause of the Charter. Any one have any other law related ideas that relate to this quote?
 
u are born free but when you are a man you are forced into society to help and participate... or u parish. thats what i think.
 
Perhaps it means that everywhere we go, there are laws to obey, there are rules to follow, there are expectations to live up to. Take your kids to school, follow the traffic lights, pay for your gas, go to work, pay your bills, obey the speed limits, etc. etc. There are so many laws that protect us, but at the same time limit our freedom. When you're driving down an empty highway, and the limits 60, don't you just want to push and go 110, but you stay at 60 because you're told to. Yes without laws, the world would be chaos. But with laws, our freedom is diminished.
Sorry if I rambled on about irrelevant things, but I was just trying to make a point lol.

I found this quote and it seems plausible.

"He was saying that 'man' is born good and society, as opposed to keeping our evil impulses in check, is the very thing that corrupts us."

Perhaps meaning that society stokes negative impulses such as greed.
