Forgot to add, most ER's will not perform an extraction even if it's infected.. It has to be a bad situation whereas the infection is already in your blooRABtream and you have hours to live...

They do not have an oral surgeon on staff (most hospitals don't).
 
tooth infections are awesomely horrible pain. a judgement call made by someone who's in that much pain, they might as well be drunk. i'm not suprised he took the pill that would stop the pain. he was probably thinking that his body would fix itself, and in the meantime, at least there wont be pain.
