I'm 19 years old, 6'3, and I generally walk around between 155-160 lbs. While I don't look "horrible" I still realize that I am fairly thin, especially for my height. People have told me that I'm skinny all my life and it's really put a heavy load on my self esteem. I'm uncomfortable hugging people or even being intimate with girls because I don't want to feel embarrassed when they wrap their arms around me (I have protruding ribs), and I avoid any water sports because I refuse to take my shirt off, despite living near a river. My self-esteem isn't as bad as it used to be, but it is still not where I would like it to be.
Here's the thing. I eat around 2400-3000 calories a day. I usually do not eat breakfast as I have class early, have a fairly big lunch at around 1PM or so, a "mid-day meal" at around 4 or 5, and dinner around 7-8. My diet isn't super healthy, as I try and make it calorie and protein loaded. I eat mostly chicken, fish, beef, pop tarts, brownies, snack chips, etc. I also usually drink Milk, Soft Drinks and Lemonade. I work out 4 days out of the week, usually doing mostly upper body. I've had some success in improving my physique. My arms aren't disgustingly thin, and have a fair ammount of muscle on them, I have broad shoulders, and my chest isn't terribly shaped. I'm also fairly strong for my physique as I can curl 35 lb. barbells, and can do around 30 or so triangle, fist, and basic pushups per set. I also have a VERY sensitive stomach, and I have an atrocious ammount of acidic and dranal buildup, that if not managed properly will cause me to throw up. I usually have to watch what I eat, and I can get full fairly easily sometimes.
My genetics do not match up well either. Both of my parents are fairly, or were fairly thin. My Dad is 6'1 and weighs around 190. My Mom is 5'4 and weights around 100 lbs. My little brother is skinnier than I am at 6'0 120 lbs. and he eats more than I do!
I've tried every method of gaining weight, from eating an atrocious ammount of calories a day and making myself sick by doing so, working out extensively, using supplements, everything. None of it seems to work. I have gained weight progressively over the years at a very minimal rate, but now it's just getting tiresome. I would at least like to weigh 170 or 180 soon.
What can I do differently? If I eat too much, I will get sick. I work out like I'm supposed to, take in a decent ammount of calories, and I take care of myself. Will I be this skinny forever, or is it just my metabolic rate?
Thanks for the advice in advance.
