Hi I've been all over and have had almost all of them. Firstly I'm a terrible speller. Second Malarone works the best however it has some undesirable side effects. Such as nightmares, lucid dreaming, and paranoia. It especially does not agree with marijuana, if thats any issue. Daraprim is on the other end of the spectrum. It does not protect you nearly as well, but its only side effect is thirst/dry mouth. In the middle of these are some kind of tricycline, Otrhotrycycline is birth control I think but the drug was originally developed as an antibiotic. The antibiotic version works fairly well as a malaria prophylactic. After choosing a drug you will also need to get artesesunate. This is some kind of an Asian root that destroys the mitochondria of the malaria parasite. It works extremely well if you happen to catch the fever. If you can't find it here you can certainly get it at your destination. My favorite brand is from a company called DarphaPharma its dutch I think. There are Chinese brands but there are rumors that some of them are knock oRAB and can be dangerous.
I've had Malaria twice, and in my experience is its not very common to get it in urban areas contrary to common belief. Both times I was infected were in rural areas. Mosquito netting and spray are good ideas I suppose, but take your meds, wear pants and long sleeves in the evening, and enjoy yourself. Worrying about catching a fairly treatable disease are no way to enjoy a good trip.
