Making it stop "asking"!?

I have a Nokia E62 I just got, I cannot figure out how to make it just automatically access the internet without asking for permission EVERYTIME. This really is a PITA when I'm using google earth and it asks every 5 seconds!

On the 6682 It was easy to change, dont remember how but was able to do it.lol.

Anyhelp is GREATLY appreciated
 
Hi,
I know that you can change the program permission in the installed program list. Then highlight the program you use and change the permission settings using one of the menu items. I don't know exactly how the menu item was called but it is rather obvious.

Heh yeah the native apps are running fine but everuthung else is not. On my nokia 6682 you can make it run smooth , that is S60v2. This one (E62 / S60v3) is starting to piss me off. Im using google earth which is nice and pretty darn clear but asks ALL THE TIME for permission. i did try what the guy under neith me suggested but the only options were for media, which i changed to only once and one labelled network which has options "Ask everytime" and "Not allowed"!!! Great. I was really loving this phone, keys are small and take a while to get used to. I guess you can't expect to type at full speed on a hand held.

i also need to figure... Oh ill post a new thread,if anyone figures out how to override this or if there is a decent firmware out there lemme know.

The fix has to be done on Google's side. gmm does not have a specific "auto connect" feature built into the programing. there for it prompts you every time. if you want this fixed you need to create a google group and get some other people griping for you to google.
 
I beg to differ. I have used it on several s60v3's that were unbranded and it worked fine, the only time I had trouble was when I used the cingular e62.
 
The problem is that Cingular has a developer's signature that they offer for java programs. If your program is "Cingular Approved" then it's allowed to auto-connect. Google Maps, Opera Mini, etc. are not bothering with this.

It's not all s60v3 phones, only the E62 because it's Cingular branded. It's the same thing on the LG CU500. Most java programs must ask permission to connect to the internet for EVERY CONNECTION.

It's not a Nokia problem, it's not a Google problem, it's a Cingular problem, and once again is testimony to why I will not purchase a branded handset for my primary use.

The only workaround is to unbrand your handset, and given that (in the US) the E62 is a Cingular exclusive, there's not an unbranded firmware out there.

However, something that might be interesting to try is to get the Rogers E62 firmware and see if that works.
 
What's peculiar is that Cingular's posted policy indicates that unsigned apps can still be set to "Ask once per session". In fact, there is no category of app for which "Always ask" is an option but "Ask once per session is not". that is peculiar. Personally I would like to get to the bottom of this because I'm slightly interested in the pending N75, however not if it's going to give me a headache trying to use java apps like google maps or nav4all, both of which I use daily.

I am confident that Cingular is the culprit here, however, due to the fact that the exact same app, on an unbranded s60v3 device (all of them, actually) has zero problems with this. Now, you do have to specify the access point and give permission when you first start the app, but it's always been like that.
