This morning my bf said to me, "maybe its your makeup thats clogging your pores and making you break out." Yes i wear makeup everyday, but i wash my face at night. Ive worn different types of makeup but havent paid attention to what my face looks like while using them. Ive always had acne, even when i dont wear makeup. So how much does makeup actually play a role in acne?

I had very bad acne as a teen and at that time i didn't wear makeup. Eventually my skin cleared and it was during that age that i began wearing makeup, i was totally clear for many many years wearing makeup. Now i've been cursed again with acne and at this point wearing makeup is the only way i go out. I've tried mineral makeup, normal foundation, even a foundation with salicylic acid in it to help clear up your skin. In my opinion, i didn't see a difference at all in my skin. I'm sure some foundations or creams or whatever can irritate the skin, but overall i don't really believe that makeup has much to do with it. (Just from personal experience, of course)

I have acne with or without wearing makeup, I wish that were the case though because Id have clear skin my now. (but Im clearer now that I quit putting *everything* on my skin)

I suffered from acne for years. I was hoping I would grow out of it, but once I hit mid twenties I started getting doubtful of that happening. I use to get very large & sometimes painful breakouts especially around my mouth. Through years of trial and error I finally found something that works. I no longer get any monster breakouts, just occasionaly a few tiny pumps that are barely noticable. First thing I did was stopped drinking milk completely. This alone made a MAJOR difference for me. Then I would wash my face with the antibacterial wash, the stuff they sell for hanRAB, and use any brand of paRAB as an estringent as long as it had an acne fighting agent like benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. Then I changed my foundation to Loreal Bare Naturalle. (Its a cheaper version of bare essentials) I would also use Queen Helene mint julip mask when I could, or another weekly acne fighting treatment that was good for exfoliating. I also keep a stash of minocycline in case of flare ups, but don't take it on a regular basis...just occasionally when needed.

I realize you were just asking about make up, but I thought I would share my regime anyways. I know how exhausting it can be, and it really has worked wonders for me, so I figured throw it out there...maybe it will help someone else too... : )
