Hi everyone,

I'm feeling pretty down today so I thought I would post. It seems like a distant dream that I was declaring myself pain free in my last post, and I enjoyed a whole month free of pain. I completely forgot that I had problems with my back. I was pain free from the end of Feb to about March 20th.

During this time, I was shocked to find out that a young coworker was out due to back surgery. I found out that he has DDD. He had some roRAB put in his back and walked around with a cane for several days. Now he seems to be back to his wild partying self.

Well the back returned as mysteriously as it left. No certain motion or activity brings it on. It just decides to return at will. Most of the time, I am usually in a state of intense pain that feels like a brick pressed hard into my back, or I just feel like my back is weak and no stability.

I am considering seekign medical advice again. I saw a neuro back in early late Jan, and he said he did not see anything major wrong on my MRI. There has to be some logical explanation for this miserable back pain. I think back now to when I got my original Xray done at the chiro. He mentioned that my spine was off from the normal S shape. Could the spinal joints be moving and causing this pain to trigger on and off? The pain levels are constantly changing.

It has really affected my life. I struggled yesterday just to get out and go shopping a little bit. My life is not even half way off, and it depresses me to think that the longer half of my life will be full of pain and more pain.

Oddly enough, my boss has come down with the same problem and he had to get a MRI. He seems to be functioning normally now, but we never know who is hiding their pain. Maybe my work environment (office job sitting all day) has something to do with this.

I am so sorry that your back pain has come back. If I were you, I would go back to the Dr. if the pain is comming back. Many conditions that have to do with back pain, overlap each other, so may back patients find themselves going to Dr. to find out that there is nothing wrong. They say maybe stress, work etc. to go home, use OTC meRAB. and heat or ice. If it doesn't get better of gets worse...then to come back. If you do not go back, they will assume you are better. The more you go to see the Dr. the more he will have to look into it. Esspecially, once he realizes that it is not a temporary pain.

I would ask if your Neuro. specializes in spines. That makes a huge difference. Both my daughter and myself had pain problems and both saw a reg. Ortho. and Neuro. my daughters Dr. tried numerous tests and treatments to no avail. So, the Dr. actually told us that he could not figure it out and nerves can be very difficult and time consuming to find the problem. So, he recommended us to see a spine specialist. I had no idea that there were different types of Orthos. and Neuros. But yes, they have foot specialists, back specialists, neck specialists and the list goes on. The reg. Neuro. or Ortho. just works on basic cases.

I'd also mention the spine being off from the normal S shape. He could answer that question quickly and perhaps it will give him an idea of what he is looking for.

I know it must be frustrating to see other co-workers back to work and supposedly feeling better. Esspecially if they are back out "partying". Try to keep your focus on your life, since everybody is different. For all you know, that person going out and "partying" may end up back in the hospital for a reinjury and you will be back at work.

Fianlly, it deffinately can be from sitting all day long. You may talk to your Dr. about that and see if you can get a few P/T sessions. The P/T helped me to learn and to reprogram my thinking, of how to sit, stand, etc. She also gave me excercises to strengthen my core muscles, so that when I sit, I automatically sit up straight. There are alos excercises you can do at you desk, during the day.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I agree you should see a spine specialist. Physical Therapy would be a great place to start as they will work with you to reallign your spine. Your regular primary care doctor can refer you to one for insurance purposes. I hope you find the answers you are looking for and the pain relief to last a lifetime!

Consider seeing an Orthopedic Spine Surgeon. I have been using one and I find he's very focused on the spine functionality. The neurosurgeon I saw was good, but I know as a neurosurgeon they deal in everything from brain to spinal nerves. My OSS does only Spine and that seemed to help him quickly get to diagnosis and treatment.

One test I had, which was not all that pleasant but worked well for diagnosing, was a CT Myelogram.

I had back, neck and leg pain from sitting at my computer too long. I went to a physical therapist for help. He said my problem is very common, most people have a tendency to sit in a forward position at their computer causing undue stress on their back neck and legs.He started me on an exercise program and urged me sit erect at the computer, but bad habits are hard to break. He told me one of his clients fond a man on the web site who builRAB custom made foot rest that helped her. I found a man called gramps, he asked me a nuraber of questions regarding my height, the type of chair I use, etc. Now I can sit all day long at my computer without any discomfort. I you have a simple back problem like I had, try sitting erect at your desk, or consider a proper foot rest.
