make the rich pay the debt; problem solved.

the actual nuraber's don't really matter, do they? people shouldn't get to be as rich as the top 1% while other's are struggling to pay for college, or dying of starvation. take the rich down a notch, make them pay for this clusterfuck, and bring them back down to reality with the rest of us.

Aside from the retarded premise of this thread that the TS starts with, tax reform should happen at some point to simplify the tax code and elimiate credits/loopholes while working out manageable rates.

It's not fair that 40-50% of earners don't even pay taxes after credits, etc.
It's not fair that the top earners pay effective rates (~15%) lower than middle income families.

At some point high end earners are going to need to be taxed progressively (including capital gains) and low end earners are going to need to be taxed at some rate (even if it's 1-5%). Both are skipping out on paying their "fair" share.

No one but the harshest extremist begrudge the rich for earning a damn good living.

The problem many of us have is that wages for the middle class have stagnated over the last few decades while the rich have increased their wealth exponentially. Without a strong middle class, this country will crurable

Which is why no one is proposing to tax them at 100%.

The point is that if you taxed them at 100%....the debt situation would look significantly different over any span. The claim that it wouldn't make a dent is stupid, it would. It would be entirely durab though so we will never see that even proposed.

On the contrary, it would be a herculean task just to wipe out one year's budget deficit, before even paying down a cent of the accumulated debt. We're talking about increasing federal revenues by 40 PERCENT just to break even.

The rich don't do it. The private sector mostly employs two types of people: low wage, often temporary workers and ultra high wage executive types. About the only people who actually have a middle class lifestyle are government employees, university employees, professional political activists (think tanks), etc.

Further, you idiots, the rich have already gone. Capital is mobile, and capital left the US a long time ago. They aren't investing in the United States (other than in buying more control of the government), they are investing overseas.

Do you honestly believe that only the people who are currently rich (who mostly got rich by rent-seeking and other forms of scam) are capable of creating jobs and running things?

"The rich" (the actual rich, the wealthy, not the 250k middle class wage slaves) are overwhelmingly pie in the sky progressives. We'll be FINE without them.

According to the dictionary definition, we can put it like "The cool kiRAB espoused that "life isn't fair" in order to explain their dominance over the loser, but ironically they later found themselves at his mercy."

I guess it doesn't really matter what you call it..

Why no mention of taking everything that all the politicians, both past and present, and their families own.

If you want to know who REALLY allowed "this to happen", look at the politicians FIRST. THEY are the ones who set up the rules.

I for one would love to see Obama, Clinton, The Bush's, and Carter in the fucking poor house.

Agreed ....the same can be made over any given cut in spending on any one item (short of 100% completely unfunding military and entitlements).

Was there some weird mass exodus of rich people from this country in the 90's after the largest tax increase in history was passed? If so, I missed it.

Like everything, there is no black and white answer. WHEN the Bush tax cuts expire (and you know they will) I highly doubt you'll see the rich up and leave the country.

That's not nearly ideological enough of an idea to pass in today's political climate.

Obviously the solution is to further cut taxes on the job creators so they can create more jobs with their additional capital for investments and such.

Wealthiest 1% of Americans control $28.4 trillion

Seize it, use a little over half to pay off the debt, and give the other half to the american tribes who we stole this country from
