Ok guys, i have money saved up to invest in a car stereo system.. but before i go blow it all.. there are some things i need to know.

1) What brands are the best for car audio systems? name a few if you can

2) What exactly does the thing that goes where the radio controls are do? besides look cooler...

3) what are amplifiers and how do they affect the music? if your speakers can only go to a certain watt.. then how does an amplifier help if it cant go over that?

4) are the type of speakers you get what determine how loud the music can go and sound good before it starts to sound crappy?

5) how much would an instilation cost roughly?

thank you SO MUCH if you answer. any info helps

planet audio, kicker, eclipse,jl audio, I recommend kicker strongly.
#2 If you're speaking of an eq. it helps adjust and fine tune your sounds.
#3 Amps. Amplify sound increasing certain sounds depending on how it is set or tuned- If you have a low watt speaker don't put a big amp to it or you'll blow the speaker, make sure the speakers you amplify can handle the power the amp can produce
#4the amp and speaker determines your volume (decibels)the more watts on both the better and don't worry yourself about max or peak power ratings you want to know and focus on rms or continuous power ratings
a couple 200-300 front to back installation

Infinity is one of the best manufacturers of audio equipment, Klipsch is also very nice. An amplifier takes the signal from the tuner or CD player (which is usually in milliwatts) and bumps it up to the several hundred watts that most speakers use. They can also do other things, like change the EQ. This is what the control would do on your console, change the volume, EQ, and various other things. The distortion rating on both the amplifier and the speakers are what determine the crappiness or awesomeness of the sound, it is measured in a percentage, usually pretty low, like 0.012%. Harmon-Kardon and Yamaha make good amplifiers.

1.) if your adding sub woofers, kicker, rockford fosgate, audiobahn, pyle, MTC, ETC.. if your just replacing stock, kicker, pioneer, pyle, jvc, ETC..

#2.) some people call it a head unit or aftermarket cd-player, it is what controls the tuning of the individual tones of your new system such as lows, mids, hi, bass, ect... some good brands for these are pioneer, kenwood, and alpine, these to brands would give you the best tuning in my opinion.

#3.) amplifiers or amps for short are what run your subs which give you your bass, they take the frequencies from the rcas and aplifie them to give u the bass and determin how quit or loud the bass is more or less.

#4.) well the type of speaker you get rather it be stock replacements or subwoofers will make a bit of a difference in the way it sounds, but every speaker will play as loud as the cd-player will play them but some will sound better then others.

#5.) well it all depends on where u take it but most place charge between $55 and $70 an hour, I don't know where u live but here in fort wayne, Indiana at d&b sales they charge $65 an hour unless you have it installed the day you buy the stuff, like i said i don't know where u live but here in churubusco, Indiana I only charge for what work i have to do so normaly a hole system like yours would take me about 3 1/2 hours and i would only charge like 50-60 bucks. hope this helps.
