I just got a 99 Honda accord v6 3.0 litre vtec and im wondering how i can keep the car in great shape so it stays reliable. I also dont know much about this cars engine. Could someone tell me about the vtec in this certain car and how it works?

U have a J30A1 eninge 200hp and its a very nice car good choice. U need to change your oil every 3000 miles and get a good oil filter I use k&n. Also make sure u change your air filter or clean it about the same as oil. And last but most important when your car is in vtech it uses more oil. So u need to check your oil level everyday just to be on the safe side. The harder u drive and longer your in vtech the more oil used

Stupid answers. FIRST you need to drain and replace ALL the fluids. With only HONDA original. Brake fluid, ATF-Z1 or new ATF-DW1 as these are known for tranny problems drain and refill your ATF 2-3 x right away!! Do power steering fluid, get some decent synthetic motor oil, new air and cabin filters. New plus. Wires if it has them.

vtec stands for variable valve timng and lift electronic control. when you reach your vtec power band it switches the use of the lobes on the cam shaft. this allows more air and fuel into the cylinder
