Main Characters That Aren't Important To The Show

I remember wondering why in the world Tails, Bunnie and Rotor weren't all that noted much in Sonic SatAM. All the episodes were either about:

Sonic's life
Sally's life
Sonic and Sally 4eva!1!
Antoine's shenanigans (for the lulz)

I actually thought that Bunnie was way cooler than Sally as a kid (still do) and it was sad that they didn't use her to her full pontential - even from what little I've read of Archie, she only got a plot or two and be pushed aside for Sally Sue and Mina Sue baaaawing about Sawnik. But what can you do

Outside of Alexis fighting off one Shadow Rider in season one and becoming a member of the Society of Light in season two, I don't think that she was ever that important to the show. She rarely dueled and had little or no connection/involvement in the seasons' various plots. She was pretty much there for fanservice since day one, especially with her painfully obvious crush on Jaden. I don't really think that Tea was there for fanservice. It felt more like she was there in order to have a weird love triangle between her, Yugi and Atem.

As for Akiza, I have heard that she has little involvement in the next arc, which is kind of disappointing. Still, Akiza was meant for fanservice from day one as well, so it isn't the same as being useless/unimportant. The main difference between Akiza and previous main female Yu-Gi-Oh! characters is that the writers actually care enough to actually give her character some development and importance to the plot. Having little involvement in the next arc, to me at least, doesn't really change the fact that she has a more significant role to the plot of 5D's than Tea and Alexis did in their series.

There was a Klasky-Csupoesque cartoon named Moville Mysteries that was about paranormal events happening to kids. The plot of each episode didn't revolve much around the title character, but to others in the show; some were regulars, others one-episode-only. Moville's role is more like Alfred Hitchcock or Rod Serling, giving monologues at the end of the episode.

Mmmm, that's not really the same thing. Bunnie wasn't the main character of SatAM , but a supporting player; she was always meant to be a supporting player. Sonic the Hedgehog intentionally focused on Sonic and Sally; Bunnie, Rotor and Tails were never meant to share equal status with them.

Again, Gorgonzola isn't a main character on Chowder, so he doesn't fit the topic. Keep in mind that we're not talking about supporting characters who we feel should get or have gotten more screen time, but main characters who don't get that much play. Some of these characters like Bunnie and Gorgonzola may indeed have potential, but they're not the stars of their respective shows, which is what this thread is about.

The thing is that, after episode 64, I feel (I guess now, felt), that Akiza would have a ton of potential in the next season. All that potential is why I like her so much. She has her parents or at least had her parents appear (which seems very rare in Yu-Gi-Oh! and I don't know if they'll appear again) and they actually show that Akiza and Yusei like each other. They could've taken a really good character and made it into something great, but instead, they push it all away. (What a waste!) :(

I now really hope they make a season 3 (not getting hopes up) and if they do, I would hope that Akiza gets some more involvement (DEFINATELY not getting hope on that either), otherwise all the character developement and potential went down the drain (Well, like you said, atleast she got SOME developement). (:( and )

Well technically he's supposed to be a bully but the thing is he dose it the same way most of the time and he can far more interesting at. Since I forgot the title I'll lean towards the main cast now. Truffels is a good example, other than being bossy she dosen't really do anthing in alot of the storylines. The only one can think of off the top of my head is when she had the fit at Mung for forgeting thier anavesery but it still focused more on Mung's point of few, I know there are a few others but even then she's still undermined by the other characters.

Well, C.H. Greenblatt mentioned on his blog that initially, he tried to give Truffles some ample screen time, but that she's such an abrasive character that it wasn't easy to show any different facets of her personality and that eventually Mr. Greenblatt decided that "A little Truffles goes a long way" and that she would be "like Oscar the Grouch; she would spend most of her time in her room and only come out occasionally."

According to the commentary on the Sonic SatAM DVD set, Tail's role was supposed to be amped up in S2/the never produced Season 3, but the network wanted more Antoine. Tail's focus eps made way the episodes with the 11 minute segments.

Tea/Anzu in Yu-gi-oh! was consistently important in the manga. The anime had her and Tristan/Honda shoved to the sidelines and their roles basically amounted to being cheerleaders for Yugi and Joey.

Sorry? You don't have to apologize; I was just pointing out a fact, not criticizing you.

Personally, it kind of ticks me off though that Anzu and Honda were shoved to the side in the anime, while Kaiba, who in the manga was an important secondary character like Mai, was made on the same level of importance as Yugi and Joey (the Doma filler arc is a fine example; not to mention that they added him into the final arc when he wasn't there in the manga since his character arc was over.)

I really am upset that now, apparently, both Luna and Akiza are being pushed to the side (I re-read what I did last night and saw it included Luna). They are the two "main" and Akiza's the "lead" female. Shoving those two to the side, make the show pratically all male.

What Aki and Luna got in the first two arcs is a lot more than previous female main cast members, at least. That's progress...? I'd really like to see what would happen with a Yugioh series with a female as the lead protagonist.

There's a new female character who becomes pretty important to the story. Though, she's not in a lot of episodes, but it seems like she's becoming more of a regular on the show.
