How do you calculate the magnitude and direction of the net (total) gravitational force acting on the moon?
Given:
Mass of Sun: 1.99 * 10^30 kg
Mass of Earth: 5.97 * 10^24 kg
Mass of Moon: 7.35 * 10^22 kg
distance between the Earth and the Sun: 1.50 * 10^11 meters
distance between the Earth and the Moon: 3.84 * 10^8 meters
Gravitational constant: 6.67 * 10^-11 N*m^2/kg^2
i was told that i was just supposed to use the gravitational force formula to solve this, but i'm not getting anything close to what the answer should be.
Please help! I need to know this for a quiz tomorrow!
