Magical girls

One reason I tend to shy away from comics.. something starts off with a good idea, but then writing and editorial changes come in and doom it.

I'm saying they tend to go hand in hand. My main point was there's very few heroines who are assertive and don't dress in a provocative way. Most companies (DC/Marvel being no exception) tend to rely on their sexualization as a safety net in case people don't like female characters who are assertive and otherwise not acting like the traditional female gender role. Guys may not like watching girls play the role of the hero, but if they're half naked, then they can at least get the attention of all the hormonally stressed guys.

Guys, This has gone completely off topic. I'm officially putting it back on it's rails. If it gets off topic again, I'm closing this thread. This means you, Marn

Ugh, thanks Mr. Funk. And I thought coming into this thread was going to be in a tolerable level...

Anywho, first things first. I haven't seen most "magical girls" shows, so, I leave those out of the question (I'm interested though). So I'll focus on the one everyone knows, "Sailor Moon", or, as I like to call it, "Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon".

Like J.B. Warner's love with "Pocket Monsters", I'm not afraid of admitting that I love the original version of this show and think that the dub blowed, and while I am aware of the show's problems (the romance between Usagi and Mamoru in the anime could have been MUCH better then it was, some of the fillers were really uninteresting), I am willing to forgive them and enjoy what the show is, rather then complain on what didn't work and what it's not. I mean, you're talking to someone who didn't mind the fillers too much and thought "SuperS" was not flat out horrible and was actually enjoyable. In fact, in my mind, the characterizations were charming, the soundtrack was just GORGEOUS, the animation was fun to look at, the voice acing was wonderful, and above all us, I thought it was a really fun and entertaining show to watch.

But, judging by the posts on this thread, that's not what you guys want. Rather then just sitting back and enjoying the ride (The soundtrack is great. Man, that episode made me cry. I wonder how this episode will go, etc.), like folks like me, you guys just want to criticize everything about the ride (Every episode must be canon. Every episode must bring character development and bring serious, dark, and moody stories. Every episode must be original, and so on and so forth). Why that is, I don't know why (but I'm sure you all have your reasons), but hey, you won't find me complaining about this particular show all the time.

But, this is coming from a teenage male whose doesn't watch a lot of anime and sets his standarRAB really low (like, comedy cartoons from the 30's to 60's low), so what do I know?
