I saw it when it first came out and was a bit disappointed to see that his mind reading act with Anne-Margaret was actually the only card trick I can do. It undermined his credibility as a magician somewhat.
I think the simplicity of the trick is the point. He goes crazy when he gets it wrong first time - presumably part of his "act", but it does make you wonder at that point in the film whether his crazy rantings are real or part of an act.
